ARTS COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 16, 2020
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p.m. via online public meeting.
Present: Sue Collander, Keith Behrendt, Bryan O'Malley, Leah Rogalski-Davis, Janelle Zauner-
Hoffart, Laura Simna (arrived after Trek at Rec discussion)
Absent: Wilma Kepperley, Jackie Chavez -Anderson, Stephanie Procter
Staff. Planning Director Kim Lieber, Administrative Assistant Nicole Rambo -Ackerman
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Bryan moved, seconded by Leah, to approve the Arts Commission minutes of June 17,
2020, motion passed 5-0.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS AND COMMITTEES
Butternut Ridee Pocket Park
Kim said the quotes for the walk and landscaping portion of the project are due on September 22
and an update will be sent out. The streetscape banner has been designed by Studio Graphique to
complement the future Historic District signage. The construction should be finished by the end
of the year.
Wishing Tree
Nicole said there were 123 ribbons on the wall and the themes ranged from unity, love,
happiness and health. The commission wanted to put up a Facebook post thanking the
community for participating.
Drawing Contest
Keith said there were three submissions for the contest. Each participant received a prize from
Small Studio Productions. He thought the contest was a good idea but there was so much
uncertainty with school so families were not able to focus on the contest. There is interest in
doing another contest when everyone gets into a routine again. Kim thought it was a good
framework. Nicole said the online submission form worked well and helped keep things
organized. If the contest is around Valentine's Day, the theme could be "What do you love about
North Olmsted?"
Scaveneer Hunt
Kim thought the idea was great but timing unfortunately did not work out. In retrospect, she
thought there should have been more advance promotion for the activity. A week of posts were
shared and were not getting any participation. Staff decided to stop the scavenger hunt so the
prompts could be used at a better time. Janelle agreed and thought it was launched when
businesses were reopening so the community's focus had shifted. Leah suggested having more
incentive if the commission tries to do it again. Sue thought the Facebook posts should have
more information included. Kim suggested adding more information to the graphic.
