Veterans Art Gallery
Nicole said 20 pieces were submitted by six artists representing the Army and Coast Guard. She
reached out to get a few more pieces from some of the artists. The gallery will be ready to launch
on October 3 and staff will work on the promotion.
Yoga in the Park
The June event was canceled, the July event had 13 participants and the August event had 24
participants. The last event will be September 26 and will be held in the Community Cabin if the
weather is bad. Parks and Recreation will probably be interested in doing the event next year and
the commission should think of ways to help contribute to the event.
Yoga+
Dates have been scheduled for January, February and March and Kelly Patrick with Circle of
Life will be the instructor. There will be registration requirements to ensure social distancing
requirements are met. The event may need modified based on event limitations, so vendors may
need to be rethought if the attendance is limited. Leah thought the virtual yoga classes presented
by Circle of Life went well and may be a good option for the event. Kim thought a virtual event
may work and the additional presentations could still be included without planning for social
distancing requirements. Sue added that some people may be more interested in trying yoga from
home instead of in person. A committee will be created to plan the event.
Trek at the Rec
The Rec Center is having an outdoor Halloween event on October 23. Community groups and
vendors will decorate tents and families will drive through to trick -or -treat at each spot. Bryan
and Sue were interested in decorating and passing candy out. Nicole suggested passing out small
pumpkin painting kits. The event is limited to 200 vehicles so the groups should plan on 500
treats.
Other autumn/winter events
Leah liked the idea of a virtual Halloween decorating contest, especially since people are
planning on decorating already. An online submission form will be created for entrants to submit
photos of their decorations. Once the online submissions are collected, the judges can look at the
decorations in person before judging. Leah thought local businesses may be willing to donate
prizes. The contest should be announced by the beginning of October and the deadline should be
around October 23 so the winners can be announced before Halloween. The promotion should
start as soon as possible, maybe using video or sound to get the community's attention.
Laura liked the Santa ride around town idea but some other groups may be doing something
similar. Staff will check with other city departments to see if anything is planned. The
commission could also pass out ornaments too. Leah liked the handwritten letter from Santa idea.
Keith suggested doing sleigh rides at Springvale, but the group may need to wait until the
pandemic is over.
COMMUNICATIONS
Peace Stone Sculpture
