homecomings, Mr. Neville said there were some included last year. Ms. Egan -Reeves and Mr.
Neville volunteered to be on the committee.
Mr. Limpert moved, seconded by Ms. Schuler, to create a committee for the Remember
When? series, motion passed 7-0.
Sprinevale Ballroom Landmark Desiznation
Ms. Lieber reminded the Commission that designating Springvale Ballroom as a local landmark
is part of the Historic Preservation Plan and there are multiple steps that need to be met which
are outlined in Chapter 165. She suggested starting a research committee to get the process
started in order to designate the building before its 100th anniversary in 2023. Ms. Egan -Reeves
volunteered to help research and write the report and Mr. Morse can help after October. Staff
will send links to previous local landmark designation reports as examples. Mr. Morse explained
that each report turns out differently based on the historical events or significance associated
with the locations. Mr. Limpert asked if there are people who have knowledge of Springvale to
help the committee save time and he has a contact that may be helpful. Mr. Neville said there are
records from Dale Thomas' research at Frostville. Ms. Egan -Reeves and Ms. Schuler
volunteered to assist with the preliminary report to nominate the building at the next meeting.
Cemetery Improvements
City Council budgeted $2,500 for cemetery maintenance and improvements in the 2021 budget.
Ms. Lieber spoke to Councilwoman Williamson about the intent for funds. She was concerned
about stones sinking in the ground and taller monuments leaning over and she was hoping to
have the funds used to restore them. Ms. Lieber said the Commission should weigh in on
appropriate historic preservation techniques since the cemetery is in the historic district. The
Service Department is reaching out to companies that make monuments and do restoration to get
a better idea of project costs. She asked Councilwoman Williamson to provide photos of areas of
greatest concern to ensure they are reviewed when determining the scope of work. Mr. Neville
recalls a time when there was a speaker about cemetery restoration in the past and it would be
beneficial for the Commission to learn more before reviewing any proposals.
Training Topics
Ms. Lieber suggested finding an expert in cemetery restoration to speak for ongoing training. Mr.
Neville agreed since the commission will need to look at cemetery improvement plans but
suggested looking at the past topic ideas as well.
COMMUNICATIONS
OHS Updates
Mr. Neville said a lot of work has been done on the Thompson House and the committee has
started working on the interior of the home.
