?. o' CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES - SEPTEMBER 27, 1988 I. ROLL CALL: Chairman Morgan called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. Present: M. Betts, R. Bierman, R. Bowen, B. Gorris, E. Traczyk, and T. Morgan Absent: J. Thomas Also Present: Assistant Law Director J. Dubelko, Building Commissioner D. Conway Consulting City Engineer T. Boyer, and Clerk of Commissions B. Oring II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: M. Betts moved to approve the Planning Commission minutes of September 12, 1988 as submitted, seconded by R. Bowen, and un.animously approved. III. BUILDING DEPARTMENT REQUESTS: 1) Kronheims Furniture Store, 26088 Country Club Blvd. Proposal to place sign on Plaza North Arcade canopy (Variance granted by the Board of Zoning Appeal:s on August 3, 1988) Referred by Architectural Board of Review September 21, 1988. Mr. Papandreas, representing Biskind Development Company, presented color rendering and explained that a variance for the sign area had been granted by the Board of Zoning Appeals and that the Architectural Board of Review had approved the concept and referred the sign to the Planning Coinmission ,for review of the location?. The sign is to be installed on ttie arcade canopy on Plaza North; background of the sign will match the canopy, letters are white and red and i:t wi11 also identify Plaza South. He presented a plan showing that this sign will be equally spaced with the other four that.are already on the canopy, and explained that it will be below the existing Marshall's sign. It is their contention that the sign is necessary to identify a major tenant in Plaza South. The Commission had no problem with this sign, but questioned if there could be some type of definition as to what signs are to be placed on'the canopy. Mr. Papandreas responded that they do not intend to place all signs on the canopy, but they believe that this particular location merits more visibility than the others. He further explained that they are discussing a conceptual plan for the whole retail campus to attemp to unify tlie signage and integrate it with the new parking plan and intend to discuss this with the Commission. B. Gorris moved to approve the placing of the Kronheims Plaza South sign on Plaza North mansard as approved by the Board of Zoning Appeals and as indicated on drawing number 880429L1Q, seconded by M. Betts, and unani- mously approved. 2) OfficeMax, 26035 Lorain Road Proposal to convert supermarket to office supply outlet. Heard by the Architectural Board of Review September 21, 1988. r1r. J. Herschman, architect, explained that the revised plans show the sign on the roof of the canopy, since structurally they were unable to add the extension to the building.
