ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Morgan called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m. <br />Present: M. Betts, R. Bierman, R. Bowen, B. Gorris, E. Traczyk, and T. Morgan <br />Absent: J. Thomas <br />Also Present: Assistant Law Director J. Dubelko, Building Commissioner D. Conway <br />Consulting City Engineer T. Boyer, and Clerk of Commissions <br />B. Oring <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: <br />M. Betts moved to approve the Planning Commission minutes of September 12, 1988 <br />as submitted, seconded by R. Bowen, and un.animously approved. <br />III. BUILDING DEPARTMENT REQUESTS: <br />1) Kronheims Furniture Store, 26088 Country Club Blvd. <br />Proposal to place sign on Plaza North Arcade canopy (Variance granted by the Board of Zoning Appeal:s on August 3, 1988) <br />Referred by Architectural Board of Review September 21, 1988. <br />Mr. Papandreas, representing Biskind Development Company, presented color <br />rendering and explained that a variance for the sign area had been granted <br />by the Board of Zoning Appeals and that the Architectural Board of Review <br />had approved the concept and referred the sign to the Planning Coinmission <br />,for review of the location?. The sign is to be installed on ttie arcade <br />canopy on Plaza North; background of the sign will match the canopy, <br />letters are white and red and i:t wi11 also identify Plaza South. He <br />presented a plan showing that this sign will be equally spaced with the <br />other four that.are already on the canopy, and explained that it will be <br />below the existing Marshall's sign. It is their contention that the sign <br />is necessary to identify a major tenant in Plaza South. The Commission <br />had no problem with this sign, but questioned if there could be some type <br />of definition as to what signs are to be placed on'the canopy. Mr. Papandreas <br />responded that they do not intend to place all signs on the canopy, but <br />they believe that this particular location merits more visibility than the <br />others. He further explained that they are discussing a conceptual plan <br />for the whole retail campus to attemp to unify tlie signage and integrate <br />it with the new parking plan and intend to discuss this with the Commission. <br />B. Gorris moved to approve the placing of the Kronheims Plaza South sign <br />on Plaza North mansard as approved by the Board of Zoning Appeals and as <br />indicated on drawing number 880429L1Q, seconded by M. Betts, and unani- <br />mously approved. <br />2) OfficeMax, 26035 Lorain Road <br />Proposal to convert supermarket to office supply outlet. <br />Heard by the Architectural Board of Review September 21, 1988. <br />r1r. J. Herschman, architect, explained that the revised plans show the <br />sign on the roof of the canopy, since structurally they were unable to <br />add the extension to the building.
