NORTH OLMSTED LANDMARKS COMMISSION
pp? ? Q/ JUNE 13, 1988 Meeting
.
?? Members Present:
??y5Mi}ce Patton Chairman, Pat Bahas-City Council Rep.,
? Bob Parry, Lois Van Auken, Joe Lang, Betty Lord, and Tony
Smeraldi
°'
?
SPECIAL BUSINESS
Old Town Hall-Don Copeland:
Don Copeland is the Director of Human Resources for
the City of North Olmsted, he also serves as N.O.L.C.'s
liaison with City Hall. Upon Request by the N.O.L.C., Mr.
Copeland made a presentation concerning the restoration
of Old Town Hall. Since 1982 the City has been working
on the restoration of Old Town Hall. The restoration has
been following the 1983 .Plan entitled A MASTER PLAN FOR
PRESERVATION-THE OLD TOWN HALL-NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO. Much
of the restoration has been funded by the CDBG grants, (along
with some work being done by the North Olmsted Service Department)
However it appears, that due to changing priorities that
the likelihood of CDBG grants being available for Old Town
Hall restoration is quite small. Therefore if the restoration
of Old Town Hall is to continue, funds for the restoration
must be obtained from other sources, such as funds budgeted
by City Council and from private donations, or revenues
from the use of the facilities.
Special Guests:
Mr. and Mrs Gustafson, of 5475 Columbia Road attended
the meeting and had questions concerning their property.
Betty Lord described to them the criteria for obtaining
a Plaque (Historic building Recognition Program). The Gustafsons
also had some questions concerning the problem of their
eroding back yard. It seems their house borders the Metropark
Valley and their back yard is "falling into" the valley.
Some suggestions were made to the Gustafsons, including
a recommendation that they contact the City Engineer and
the Metroparks for further help.
OLD BUSINESS
Friends of Old Town Hall
Since it seems unlikely that there will be any future CDBG
grants for Old Town Hall Restoration, and since it seems
unlikely that the City Council would be able to fund the
restoration out of city funds, the necessity for obtaining
alternative sources of funds has become very crucial to
