BUILDING DEPARTMENT REQUESTS:
1) Rini's'Supermarket, 23100 Lorain Road
Proposal for exterior renovation to existing building.
r1r. Draeger, architect, advised that the present off.ice would be re-
located to the new 80 square foot addition in order to install a new
check out station. The additior will!be-extended out 4 foot G inches;
will be 18.feet wide, and will match the existing liuilding. The present
3 foot 4 inch sidewalk, which is rarely used, will be eliminated. He ex-
plained .that this sidewalk was installed when one portion-of the building
was a drug store and was then used by customers going between the two
stores. Mr. Bowman, Mr. Holmok, and Mr. Herman, all adjacent neighbors,
mentionefl several problems that they were having with this business.
Since.the approval of the construction of.the freezer addition, all truck
traffic has been directed to the western portion of the building (adja-
cent to West 231st Street), automobiles are parking close to this area
which was previously not for parking and causing problems for the truck
traff ic. A wood fence was required and was supposed to hook up to an
existing chain link fence; this fence was never installed properly; does
not hook up to the chain link fence (manager tried to fix it with coat
hangers); is frequently knocked over by trucks because no bumper stops
were installed. They stated that because there is a gap in the fence
customers and children use their yards as a cut through and young people
cut through at night and trespass in their yards. Slats are missing in
the chain link fence and fieadlights shine onto their property. They
futher complained that parking lot is cleaned by a street cleaner at
11:00 p.m. on Sundays and landscapers come on Friday and Sunday nights all
summer long. There is also a truck coming at 5:00 a.m. to pick up cartons.
They stated that it took four months of complaining about a faulty compactor
(caused offensive odors) before they finally replaced it. Mr. Thomas asked
that the Building Commissioner make an inspection of this property and
Mr. Gorris requested that the plans for the cooler addition be brought
back at the next meeting. Mr. Draeger agreed to take these complaints
