LANDiM9RKS C OMMISS I ON PEETING <br />May 17, 1990 _? <br />Present: Chairman Joe Lang, Russell Bierman, Betty Lord, Charles Miller, <br />Rita Patterson, Tony Smeraldi, Lois Van Auken, Debbie Wilkinse <br />Guest, Philip Huffman, member of activities committee of 175th <br />anniversary committee. Present for a sbort time: Mayor Ed <br />Boyle, RTancy Wlodarski, Jack Boss. <br />Call to Order : 7:40 P.m. <br />New Business: The meeting was devoted to assessing progress on several <br />activities planned or suggested for the community 175th anni- <br />versary celebration--specifically, those activities centering <br />around Town Hall on sunday, August 19th. <br />1. Bug Tours of Butternut Historic District and Frostville Museum, to run <br />about every half-hour from Town Hall to Frostville and back, with a <br />narrator on board. It was reborted that a school bus might not be <br />available at all, and if so, might be quite expensive. A city bus <br />would be much preferred, especially since it is a city celebration; <br />it was agreed to see if one would be available, or perhep s one of the <br />vans used for transporting senior citizens to appointments, etc. <br />20 M_ap_of Butternut Historic District will be made available to all par- <br />ticipants, also a leaflet outlining a self-guided tour of the <br />district, for walking or biking. <br />3. Balloon launch: It was decided that this was not feasible. <br />4. Photographer: No one has been fourid yet, to take pictures of indivi- <br />duals or families, in period costume. <br />5. Ice Cream Social: It was reported that Dairyments no longer carries <br />small ice cream cups. Tony Smeraldi will find out where the Sportsmen's <br />Club obtains such cups for their social activities. <br />6. Historic Video and.Slide shows: It vaas suggested that we run the video <br />upstairs and the slide Eb ow downstairs,-in Town Hall. Narration needed <br />for both; Lord and Patterson will edit video; Lord_and Van Auken will <br />develop script £or sl.ides. Narrators will need outline for bus trips; <br />als o . - - <br />7. History of North Olmsted: Copies of this brief, 2-nage local history <br />will be available. opies were distributed to those in attendance. <br />8. Solicitin Memorabilia from local residents, recognizing donors: <br />ang reported that he had had an interview with A1ma Gifford of the <br />Olmsted Historical Society, asking for the use of o1d letters, diaries, <br />pictures, maps, etc..which the Society might be willing to loan for <br />display`or for reading aloud.- Mrs. Gifford said she would look for <br />such tliings, but felt that there was nothing suitable available. <br />It was decided that a previous idea be employed--that a printed re- <br />quest for memorabilia that local residents might be willing to loan <br />for display or for. copying be sent to all local newspapers for pub- <br />lication soon. <br />g. Solicit and interview participants for a"Ta1king History"--Fattersan <br />reported. that High School students are : ready and willing to do such
