Maloney moved to approve the minutes of August 7, 1991, seconded by B. Jonas, 23061 Clifford.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request 7 foot 9 inch variance for distance
between proposed addition and detached garage. Violation of Ord. 90-125,
Section 1135.02(c)2m
Chairman Gomersall called all interested garties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr. and Mrse Jonas. Mr. Jonas explained that they needed the
additional room and their garage was too close to the addition. No neighbors were
present. Building Commissioner Conway advised that the interior of the garage
should be laminated with 5/8 inch dry wall on any areas that were within 15 feet
of the structure as a fire wall. He explained that this would have to be done
prior to occupancy of the addition. Mr. Jonas agreed. B. Grace moved to grant
the request for the 7 foot 9 inch variance for the distance between the proposed
addition and detached garage with the stipulation of the fire rated dry wall in
the garage, seconded by T. Restifo, and unanimously approved. Variance granted.
2.
Goodwill Industries, 23359 Lorain Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Violations of
1163.12-(a). (Please Note:. existing
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was
administered to Mr. Costello, an adjacent tenant, Mrs. Smith, an adjacent
resident, Ms. Gallani, representing Goodwill Industries, and Mr. Shaxiff, sign
contractor. Ms. Gallani explained that they have moved to a different unit in the
shopping center and are requesting to use the space left on the pole sign by the
previous tenant and are also requesting an additional sign on the wall adjacent
to Clague Road. They will no longer be using the ground sign which is closer to
their original unit. Mr. Costello stated that the he had an understanding with
the landlord that his business could use the ground sign when Goodwill abandoned
it. Ms. Gallani stated that the ground sign belonged to Goodwill, not the
landlord. If that was the case, Mr. Costello advised that he would return with a
request for another ground sign. La.w Director Gareau pointed out that there were
3 businesses in the center and there would only be signage for 2 of them so the
Board should consider what they were going to do with when the third tenant came
back for a sign. Building Commissioner Conway explained that under the old code a
center could have one pole sign and one ground sign, however under the new code,
eventually only the shopping center itself can be identified on a ground sign,
