BUILDING DEPARTMIINT REQUESTS:
1) rierle Harmon's Fan Fair, 24559 Lorain Road.
Goal post to be constructed around sign.
Heard by Architectural Review Board August 8, 1992.
Mro Romp, owner, and Mr. Hixon, sign contractor, presented plans for the yellow
goal post which includes cross bars and uprights to be installed around the
previously installed sign. The Arehitectural Review Board specified that the
uprights coul.d not go above the mansard. Mre Hixon explained that the uprights
and cross bars will be illwninated and the post will be padded the same as a
regvlar goal post. This store is the first that is not in a mall and the lighted
goal posts are part of their logo, and-the uprights iasually exceed the roof 1ine.
The color will be a"safety" yeliow, not a florescent or day-glow. The square
footagp of the sign will conform to code with the uprights and crossbar included
as sign area. Mr. Thomas pointed out that the sign is set back quite a way from
Lorain Road. 14r. Orlowski believed that the illuminated uprights and cross bars
would look like a big "U" fran a distance, not like a goal post. Mr: Romp stated
that the post would have the lights shining on it from the btailding. 14r. Orlowski
believed that approving this concept would set a precedent. It was clarified that
the sign would anly be lighted during business hours. J. Thomas moved to approve
the construction of a goal post for the sign at Merle Harmon's Fan Fair, 24559
Lorain road with the tmderstanding: that the illtunination will be turned off
during store closings and incorporating all the recomnendations of the
Architectural Review Board ana subject to their reeommendations, seconded by B.
Gorris. Roll call on motion: Thoma.s, Gorris, Skoul.is, - yes. Mr. Orlowski, no.
Motion failed to pass. Mr. Romp and-Mr. Hixon were advised that this proposal
would go on to the B.Z.D.
