CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES-SEPTIlKBER 8, 1992 I. ROLL CALL: Chairman Gorris called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. Present: L. Orlowski, A. Skoulis, J. Thomas, and B. Gorris. Absent: R. Bowen, K. 0'Rourke, and R. Tallon. Also Present: Assistant Law Director Dubelko, Chief Building Inspector Sanker, Assistant City Engineer McDermott, and Clerk of Commissions Oring. II. REVIEiJ AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: A. Skoulis moved to approve the minutes of May 26, 1992, seconded by J. Thomas, and unanimously approved. III. BUILDING DEPARTMIINT REQUESTS: 1) rierle Harmon's Fan Fair, 24559 Lorain Road. Goal post to be constructed around sign. Heard by Architectural Review Board August 8, 1992. Mro Romp, owner, and Mr. Hixon, sign contractor, presented plans for the yellow goal post which includes cross bars and uprights to be installed around the previously installed sign. The Arehitectural Review Board specified that the uprights coul.d not go above the mansard. Mre Hixon explained that the uprights and cross bars will be illwninated and the post will be padded the same as a regvlar goal post. This store is the first that is not in a mall and the lighted goal posts are part of their logo, and-the uprights iasually exceed the roof 1ine. The color will be a"safety" yeliow, not a florescent or day-glow. The square footagp of the sign will conform to code with the uprights and crossbar included as sign area. Mr. Thomas pointed out that the sign is set back quite a way from Lorain Road. 14r. Orlowski believed that the illuminated uprights and cross bars would look like a big "U" fran a distance, not like a goal post. Mr: Romp stated that the post would have the lights shining on it from the btailding. 14r. Orlowski believed that approving this concept would set a precedent. It was clarified that the sign would anly be lighted during business hours. J. Thomas moved to approve the construction of a goal post for the sign at Merle Harmon's Fan Fair, 24559 Lorain road with the tmderstanding: that the illtunination will be turned off during store closings and incorporating all the recomnendations of the Architectural Review Board ana subject to their reeommendations, seconded by B. Gorris. Roll call on motion: Thoma.s, Gorris, Skoul.is, - yes. Mr. Orlowski, no. Motion failed to pass. Mr. Romp and-Mr. Hixon were advised that this proposal would go on to the B.Z.D. Committee of Council and this decision could be overturned by a two thirds vote of Council. 2) Dr. Jung Holistic Medical Offices, 25566 Lorain Road. Proposal to construct office building to rear of existing building (existi.ng building w-ill be demolished). Heard by Architectural Review Board August 8, 1992. rZr. Porter, architect, explained that the variances were granted for a modified proposal and presented revised plans showing these changes. The building has been reduced from 54 feet wide to 52 feet wide and the length has been increased to maintain the same square footage; a variance was granted to have a 7 foot buffer on the east side of the property instead of 10 as required, and another variance 1
