<br />CITY OF NORTH OLNSTED <br />BOARD OF ZOTTING APPEALS <br />MINUTES-JULY 2, 1992 <br />Cha.irman Gomersall called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. <br />Present: J. Maloney, W. Purper, and R. Gomersall <br />Absent: S. Ferencik, and B. Grace <br />Also Present: Law Director Gareau, Building Commissioner Conway, and Clerk of <br />Commissions Oring. <br />Chairman Gomersall advised that only 3 of the S members were present, and since <br />it would take 3 affirmative votes to approve a variance any person wishing to <br />withdraw tmtil next month should do so at this time. <br />Iten number 5, Auto Accents, was withdrawn and shortly later the representative <br />for,case number 2 Baskin Robbins withdrew after having talked with the oN,mers of <br />the business. <br />W. Purper moved to approve the minutes of the June 4, 1992 Board of Zoning <br />Appeals meeting, seconded by J. Maloney, and unanimously approved. <br />Since the approval of Ma,y minutes was deferred, J. Maloney moved to approve <br />the minutes of May 6, 1992, seconded by W. Purper, and unanimously approved. <br />Chairman Gomersall advised those present that a11 of the Board members ha,ve <br />viewed the premises involved and that no judgement is to be considered a general <br />policy judgement effecting a like situation elsewhere. <br />Spremuli Marathon Station, 28700 Lorain Road. <br />Request for variance (1123a12). Request 21.5 square foot variance for area; 7 <br />foot height variance; and location variance for pylon sign. Also request <br />variance for bulletin board sign (18 square feet of above pylon sign). <br />Violations of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.12(b) and 1163.08(a). <br />Continued fran meeting of June 4, 1992. <br />Chairmatz Gomersall called all interested parties before the Board. The oath was <br />administered to Mr. Spremuli and Mr. Barber, representing Marathon, and Ms. <br />McLaughlin, an adjacent property owner. The sign has been cut down, but <br />Building Commissioner Conway asked if a skirt or base could be put around what <br />is left of the poles to make it look like a pylon sign. It was explained to the <br />neighbor that the existing pole sign would be removed. Ms. McLaughlin had no <br />problem with the sign, and she questione,d -how gas stations could post their <br />prices as required without having pole signs. J. Maloney moved to grant the <br />request for Spremuli Nlarathon Station, 28700 Lorain Road, for a 21.5 square foot <br />variance for area; a 7 foot height variance; and a location variance for pylon <br />sign. Also grant the variance for a-bulletin board sign (18 square feet of above <br />pylon sign), w'ith condition that they will add a skirt or screen at the bottom <br />of the sign, seconded by.W. Purper, and Unanimously approvedo Variances granted. <br />Amore Bridal and Tux, 25190 Lorain Road. <br />Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to install insert into <br />PXlsting prohibited pole sign. and 9 square foot variance.for total sign area <br />allowed. Violations of Ord. 90-125, Seetion 1163.22(a) and 1163.11(e). <br />Chairman Gomersall called all intarested parties before the Board. The.oath was <br />administered to C. Hixson, sign contractor, who explained that the sign was <br />changed by the owner and then he was hired to attempt to obtain a variance to <br />keep the sign. He ad.vised that the (xaner of the center was aware that all pole <br />signs would have to be taken down in 1998. Only this section of the pole sign <br />1
