<br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARCHITECTUR.AL REVIEW BOARD <br />MINUTES-OCTOBER 20, 1993 <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Zergott called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. <br />Present: T. Gallagher, S. Krieger, and B. Zergott. <br />Absent: Y. Sohn <br />Also Present: Building Commissioner Conway and Clerk of Commissions Oring. <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />T. Gallagher moved to accept the minutes of September 22, 1993 as subnitted, <br />seconded by S. Krieger, and unanimously approved. <br />III. SIGNS: <br />Heard with building plans. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />No items. <br />V. NEW BUSINESS : <br />1) Canterbury Animal Hospital, 26135 Lorain Road. <br />Proposal to convert existing house to veterinarian clinic. <br />Referred by Planning Commission September 14, 1993. <br />Heard by the Board of Zoning Appeals October 6, 1993. <br />Mr. Burik, architect, presented revised plans reflecting the changes to the <br />front landscape buffer since that variance had not been granted. There will be no <br />significant changes to the structure; the existing siding will be painted white; <br />the roof will be shingled with Corning's Aspen Gray shingles; a railing will be <br />added to the front entrance, the direction of the entry will be changed so that <br />it does not exit onto the front parking lot; and a handicapped ramp will be added <br />to the rear. Mr. Sohn, who was not present, ha.d mentioned in his comments that <br />there should be hand rails on both sides of the handicapped ramp. Building <br />Commissioner Conway noted that this would be handled by the Building Department's <br />code check. Regardirg the landscaping, Mr. Burik would like to transplant some of <br />the existing bushes in the front to the sign area and add barberry bushes and <br />flowers. He presented a photograph of the existing house and bushes and a <br />rendering of the ground sign which has a white background with red and black <br />graphics. Mr. Conway advised that the Building Department will check the sign for <br />conformance to the codes, but it appeared that the location mi.ght have 'to be <br />changed somewhat. There will be a rear wall sign, which Dr. Kundu plans to <br />install on the fence in the rear facing Brookpark Road. Mr. Conway advised that <br />it could not be installed on the fence, but it could be put on the rear of the <br />structure. Mr. Zergott explained that it would be difficult to transplant the <br />larger shrubs and if they do not survive they will have to be replaced. Mr. <br />Zergott noted that the Planning Commission recommended landscaping along the east <br />property line. He recomnended that the sign be placed in the front landscaping <br />bed; that they should not even try to transplant the shrubs since that rarely <br />works and suggested that they use some kind of taxus behind the barberry.
