CTTY OF NORTH OLMSTED
BOARD OF BLTILDING CODE APPEALS
MIlNUTES - JiJNE 30, 1994
SECOND FLOOR CAUCUS ROOM-7:30 P.M.
SPECIAL MEETING
1. ROLL CALL:
Chainnan Burk called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
Present: R. Burk, P. Engoglia, and J. Kazak.
Absent: B. Piar, and D. Spoerke.
Also Present: Bu.ilding Coimnissioner Conway and Substitute Clerk of Commissions Wingenfeld.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTIONS OF MINUTES:
P. Engoglia moved to approve the minutes of April 28, 1994 as presented, seconded by J. Kazak,
aud unanimously approved.
III. COMMUNICATIONS:
No items.
?. HEARINGS:
1. Litehouse pools, 25601 Loram Road.
Request variance to install 24 inch railings on raised decks on qwimming pools (30 inches above
grade), instead of 36 inch railings as required in Section R 214.2.
Chanman Burk aduiinistered the oath to Mr. R. Goold, president of Litehouse Pools, who
explained that he had received a load test from an axchitect which approved the weight, and the
railing around the deck had to be approved by the board. The deck that they install around their
pools can be used in 6 or 7 combinations. The pools are 4 feet high, and instead of a 2 foot fence
on top of the pool, on one section, about 2 feet long, there is a 2 foot high arm rest on the deck,
not 36 inches as required by code for a deck that is over 30 inches above grade. It does equal the
6 feet requ.ired for a swiviming pooL The fencmg around the back of the deck is 36 inches high.
If the arm rest was installed at 36 inches, it would not be usable. He believed that moving the
board up one foot would serve no purpose. Building Commissioner Conway stated that a lattice-
type fence is installed under the arm rest. The members had no objection to the request. J. Kazak
moved to approve the request of Litehouse Pools, 25601 Lorain Road for a variance to install 24
inch railings on raised decks on swimm;ng pools (30 inches above grade), instead of 36 inch
railings as required in Section R-214-2, seconded by P. Engoglia, and unanimously approved.
2. Ralph Wamack, 26350 Butternut Ridge Road.
Request variance to keep windows in dormer addition with a net clear opening ofless than 5.7
square feet and also with less than a 24 inch high clear opening in violation of Section R-210.2.
