BiALDING DEPARTMENT REQLTESTS:
1) The Soccer Zone, west end of Lorain Road.
Proposal to construct indoor soccer field in Limited Industrial District.
Heard by architectural review board Apri117, 1996. .
Heard by the board of zoning appeals April 17, 1996.
Mr. Schmidt, owner of the property, and Mr. Garrett, Soccer Zone, presented revised plans which
reflect the suggestions of the architectural review board and a colored rendering of the building. Mr.
Schmidt explained there will now be a 5 foot high landscaped mound in the 50 foot front setback and
there are two 25 foot high pine trees that will be relocated in order to save them. The mound will be
tapered off so as not to impair visibility and it will be gradual enough to mow. SamVles and a list of the
materials had been presented after the architectural review board meeting (Roof - white; gutters -
Hawarian Blue; upper sid.ing band - Light Stone; lower siding band - Dessert Sand; block color nu.mber
1- Charcoal; block color number 2- Riverbed Sand; Accent Block - Spectra Glaze to match Hawauan
Blue; down spouts - Light Sand; eave trim - Hawauan Blue; and storefront- doors - clear anodized).
Since there is parking on the side and the entrance is in the front, Mr. Tallon would like a sidewalk ?
along the side of the building. The _
architectural review board recommended that the light poles be reduced to 25 feet high with 400 watt
metal halide bulbs. Mr. Ganett explained that the playing field would be an artificial turf with. foam
padding over the concrete floor and he explained the construction of the interior of the fields. He
advised Mr. Koeth that there is a net so that the ball cannot leave the playing field. Mr. Herbster was
concerned that there would be a problem with traffic congestion, since there is only one entrance. Mr.
Garrett stated that the way the games are scheduled they do not have traffic problems, and usually only
the family members attend the games, there are not a large number of spectators. The members
questioned if there were to be signs on I-480 (No sign elevations shown on plan). Mrs. Becker,
president of NOSO, stated that there was about 900 players in their program, and there are 250 players
in the travel program who must travel great distances to play during the indoor season.
