,
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARCHI'IECTURAL REVIIEW BOARD
MIlNUTES - APRiL 17, 1996
I. ROLL CALL:
Chainnan Zergott called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
Present: M. Gallagher, S. Krieger, T. Liggett, M. Yager, and B. Zergott.
Also Present: Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk and Substitute Clerk.of Commissions
Wingenfeld. II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NfINUTES:
T. Gallagher moved to accept the minutes of March 20, 1996 as presented, seconded by B. Zergott, and
unanimously approved.
IlI. SIGNS:
1) Galati's Auto Service, 27539 Lorain Road.
Review of color and logo on ground sign.
C. Woost, sign contractor, presented a colored sketch of the ground sign and explained it would be
mounted on two steel poles and placed in the middle of the front landscape bed. The owner will replant
the shrubs that have to be removed. Mr. Yager objected to the redundant verbiage and the phone
number on the sign. He suggested that it shou.ld just state "Galati's Auto Service". Mr. Gallagher
believed that the word `Toreign" should stay since that is his main business. Mr. Zergott stated that the
board does allow some extra verbiage on a sign, but had tried to elimiuate the individual signs. It was
agreed that it would be difficult to read the whole sign by people driviug down the Lorain Road. Mr.
Yager believed there could be a problem if everyone put a phone number on signs on Lorain Road.
After some cliscussion, it was agreed that Foreign and American could be on one line and "Auto
Service" could be on the second line, but the telephone number should be eliuuuated completely. The
members had no problem with the colors and the flag logo. T. Gallagher moved to approve the Galati
sign with the recommendation that it state `Toreign and American Auto Service" and that the
"complete" and telephone number be eliminated entirely; that the size of the letters be adjusted
accordingly; and that the shrubs that must be removed, should be replanted, and that Mr. Galati should
be made aware that the maintenance shrubs and landscaping has been let go, and this should be
addressed at this time. The motion was seconded by T. Liggett. Roll call on motion: Gallagher, Liggett, Krieger, and Zergott, yes. Mr. Yager, no. Motion carried.
2) Hot Prospects, 26747 Brookpark Extension.
Review of logo on wall sign.
Mrs. Blankenburg, the owner explained that they are replacing the existing sigu and it will just say Hot
Prospects with the logo of the chili pepper. Mr. Yager objected because each tenant has been allowed
by the owiier to have its owu style of sign, he would like some' kind coordinated sign program as the
city has asked the board to do. W. Yager suggested that this should be the last sign that is accepted
until the owner comes iu with a sign package. T. Gallagher moved to approve the Hot I'rospects sigu,
with the suggestion that a letter be sent to the owner by the Building Department advising that he is
expected to present a uniform sign program, or future signs will be denied. The motion was secouded
by M. Yager, and unavunously approved.
