Circuit Ci ,ty, 27250 Lorain Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request variance to have five (5) additional wall signs and variance
for product identification signs which are not permitted by code; and request a 137.2 square foot
variance for area of wall signs over permitted square footage. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sections
1163.12(a) and 1163.03(c). Note: variance previously granted for 81.0 square feet of sign area over
that permitted. Heard by architectural review board September 17, 1996.
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was administered to Mr.
Marino, Mrs. Zieguler, and Mr. and Mrs. Herbster. Mr. Marino presented photographs of the
existing signs and explained originally variances were granted to allow two signs on the premises,
however, the building is equipped to accommodate more. He noted that Media Play was granted a
variance to display the product names. Mr. Gomersall did not believe that the product signs are
necessary and aclaiowledged everyone knows what Circuit City sells. Mr. Purper wondered why this
was not incorporated in the original sign package. He believed the advertising was sufficient in
letting the people know what Circuit City represents. Mrs. Zieguler believed the board did not have
the facts to state everyone knows what Circuit City represents. Mr. Marino elaborated that music is
something new in Circuit City's product line. Mr. Herbster, a resident, stated the five variances
originally granted was enough and this proposal is too immense. He believed the granting of
variances for product signs may create a trend. Mrs. Herbster believed that the variances should have
been requested with the original proposal. The members agreed that the proposed signage was too
immense.
W. Purper moved to grant to Circuit City, 27250 Lorain Road.
variances for the following: five (5) additional wall signs; product identification signs which are not
permitted by code; and a 137.2 square foot variance for area of wall signs over permitted square
footage. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.12(a) and 1163.03(c). Note: variance previously
granted for 81.0 square feet of sign area over that permitted.
