CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS
CORRECTED MINiJTES - NOVEMBER 7, 1996
Chaiiman Gomersall called the ineeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Present: J. Maloney, T. Koberna, and R. Gomersall.
Absent: M. Boyle and W. Purper. Also Present• Law Director Gareau Assistant Building Commissioner Rvmarczvk, and Clerk of
Commissions Oring.
Chairman Gomersall advised that each case would be judged on the physical situation peculiar to itsel?
so that in no way is a judgment rendered considered to be a general policy judgment affecting
properties and like situations elsewhere. He explained that since it takes three affirmative votes to
approve a request, and there are only three members present, if any applicaut wished to withdraw he
should do so at this time. Two applicants withdraw, prior to the meeting: Jerome and Donna Carlton,
3845 Clague Road and Timberview Homes, 29275 Hastings Drive. St. Clarence Church, 30106 Lorain
Road, had been withdrawn before the meeting:
Rini Rego Supermarket 23100 Lorain Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request variances for the following:
An 111 square foot variance for wall sign in excess of allowable siguage for a business unit_
A 6 inch variance for wall sign in excess of allowable vertical dimension
A variance to re-face the existing prohibited pole sign.
Violations of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.12 (A); 1163.19 (A) and 1163.12 (A).
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was adulivistered to M.
Bisjac, sign contractor. Chairinau Gomersall read the request. (At this point the chairman advised
which cases had been withdrawn- see above). Mr. Bisjac explained that Rini Rego Supermarkets was
changing to their name to Rini Rego Marketplace in conjunction with the remodeling of the store frout.
They are asking to replace the wall sign, as wall as the faces on the pole sign. He explained that the
building is set back and they need a bigger sign and that, even though the pole sign- will have to be
removed in 1998, the owners believe it will be worth it for that amount of time. There was no problem
with the proposaL
J. Maloney moved to approve the request of Rini Rego Supermarket, 23100 Lorain Road for an 111
square foot variance for wall sign in excess of allowable signage for a business unit; a 6 inch variance
for wall sign in excess of allowable vertical dimension; and a variance to re-face the existing prohibited
pole sign. Violations of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.12 (A); 1163.19 (A) and 1163.12 (A), seconded
by R. Gomersall, and unavunously approved. Variances granted.
At this point, Chairmau Gomersall asked if there were any amendments to the October 2, 1996
minutes. J. Maloney moved to approve the minutes of October 2, 1996, seconded by T. Kobema, and
unanimously approved.
2. Jerome and Donna Carlton 3845 Clag;ue Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). Request a two foot side yard variance to construct garage.
Violation of Ord. 90-125, Section 1135.02 (C-2).
Applicants requested to be continued until next meetings. After the other requests were heard, the
members decided to approve this one, because it was so minor. See end of minutes.
