CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW BOARD
NIINIJTES - DECEMBER 17, 1997
1. ROLL CALL:
Chairman Zergott called the meeting to order at 5:35 p.m.
Present: S. Krieger, M. Yager, and B. Zergott.
Absent: T. L'iggett
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NYINUTES:
M. Yager moved to approve the minutes of October 22, 1997, seconded by S. Krieger, and
unaniinously approved. .
III. SIGNS:
No items.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
1) Alexander's Restaurant, 30850 Lorain Road
Mansard roof plan. Returned as requested by the architectural review board March 20, 1996:
Referred by court for resolution.
Dr. Patel, owner, presented plans for the roof screening that he had mentioned constructing at
the earlier meeting when he received his approvals. They had postponed doing this because they
had installed a fence. The screen on the front of the build.ing will be shingles to match the existing
roof and the sides will have a cedar fence stained to match the brick. He presented pictures of the
existing. Mr. Yager questioned why the mansard was not continued around the sides, at least to
the rear of the building. Dr. Patel thought it would be too costly and explained that the mansard
could not be installed around the electrical installations. Mr. Yager questioned if it would be more
costly. Dr. Patel did not think it would be seen on the side. Mr. Zergott and Mr. Yager believed it
would be visible from the east. Mr. Yager thought that the mansard should wrap around the east
side up to the build-out, and pointed out that either method would still have to be cut around the
electrical equipment. He asked if Dr. Patel had checked with a contractor on price, because he did
not think there would be much difference. He thought it would be more aestheric to have the
mansard continued. Dr. Patel agreed. Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk advised that
Dr. Patel would have to bring in proper drawings for the plan examination. Mr. Yager clarified
that the board would like to see the mansard rehuned down the east side. There would be no
problem on the west side. He read Mr. Liggett's comments which had been submitted before the
meeting. He, too, had suggested that the mansard be returned down the side and continued down
to the mechanical equipment, which he felt would complete the look. He believed it would be fine
if the roof construction were matching. Dr. Patel agreed. Mr. Rymarczyk advised that the minor
change for the parking lot, enclosures, and landscaping did not have to be discussed at this
meeting, but it is still in court until the minor changes are approved. The parking lot will either
have to be re-striped or, if it remains as is, a variance will be needed from the board of zoning
