• R ?.
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS
MIIN[JTES- FEBRUARY 13, 1997
Chairman Gomersall called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
Present: T. Koberna, J. Maloney, W. Purper, and R. Gomersall.
? Ms. M. J. Boyle willbe resigning. "
Also present: Assistant Law Director Dubelko, Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk, Clerk
of Commissions Oring and Assistant Clerk of Commissions Cornish.
Chainnau Gomersall explained that board members have viewed the premises in each case and it
would take three affirinative votes to approve a request. He advised that each case would be judged
on the physical situation peculiar to itself so that in no way is a judgment rendered considered to be
a general policy judgment affecting properties and like situations elsewhere.
The review of the minutes were defened until after the meeting.
1. Custom Tint (Harmon Glass) 25770 Lorain Road.
Request for variance (1123.12). .
Request 45 square foot variance for excess sign area for a business unit;
request variance to installindividual tenant sign on existiug non-conforming pylon sign;
request variance to have phone number on sign; and request 2 foot, 3.5 inch variance for
height of pylon sign. Violation of Ord. 90-125, Sections 1163.12 (a) &(h); 1163.03(c);
and 1163.12(b).
Note: (1) Both signs have been installed without permits and Gustom Tint is sharing building and
office with Harmon Glass. (2) All non-conforming signs must be removed by January 1, 1998.
Continued by board of zoning appeals from meeting of December 11, 1996.
Chairman Gomersall called all interested parties before the board. The oath was administered to Mr.
Hanson, president of Custom Tint and Mr. Chechowski, sign contractor, who explained that they
plan to remove the telephone number from the ground sign. Chairman Gomersall noted that this sign
has been standing for three or four months with the idea that it was going to be changed, but
removing the telephone nu.mber is not the major problem. The problem is that the sign looks like it
will fall down. The representatives explained that they do have permission to cover up the words on
the bottom of the Harmon Glass sign and replace them with a Gustom Tint sign so that they have
some visibility on the street. Harmon will be revising all their signs and will be putting their signs in
a cabinet as we1L This is not the proposal that was presented for this hearing for the variance. The
members would have no problem with that, but Assistant Building Commissioner Rymarczyk
believed that another variance would be required for that, but he had not reviewed it for any
variances required. It was agreed that this proposal could be tabled, and they could present a new
request before the next meeting so the exact variance required could be figured. Chairman
Gomersall moved to table the request of Custom Tint (Harmon Glass) 25770 Lorain Road for a 45
square foot variance for excess sign area for a business unit; a variance to install ind.ividual tenant
sign on existing non-conforming pylon sign; a variance to have phonq number on sign; and request 2
foot, 3.5 inch variance for height of pylon sign until the March meeting. `liolation-of Ord. 90-125,
Sections 1163.12 (a) &(h); 1163.03(c); and 1163.12(b). The motion was seconded by W. Purper,
and unanimously approved. Request tabled. .
