MINUTES OF LANDMARKS COMMISSION
MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 19,1985
Present: Chairperson Betty Lord, Robert Parry, Sharon Flemming
Lois Van Auken, Yvonne Petrigac, Julia Brown, Michael
Patton
The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Betty Lord at 8:05
p.m. Betty Lord began the meeting by discussing the work that
had been done on the new filing system. The files include folders
on all the properties with worksheets, inventories, and anecdotes
concerning the properties. A separate file is to be used for the
Grant material and the future work of transcribing the oral
histories and interviews from the residents was discussed.
Minutes from the last meeting were approved with no corrections.
Budget - Julia Brown and Lois Van Auken were appointed chairpersons
for a budget committee. There is a possibility that some
additional money may be allocated to the Commissi_on due to
the "impressive work and hours" spent on the Grant Project.
Although the Commission has no major projects planned for
the near future, certain ideas were discussed concerning
the use of any additional money:
1) additional research
2) milage costs and office
supplies
3) photography of property
4) historic signs
Goals - Betty Lord discussed the availability of more Grant money
for continued projects, but no interest was expressed. Discussion
continued for ideas for the future. The need for further Historical
Districting was discussed, along with more research and ideas for
plaques for the historical homes.
National Preservation Day - Ideas for celcbrating the N.P. Day in
May were briefly discussed. Some suggestions were slide presenta-
tions or printed pamplets concerning City History and the possibility
of having a booth at the next N.O. Homecoming (1986).
Historical Districting - Michael Patton and Robert Parry will be
meeting to work together as head of the planning for future
districting. Gloria Sell will also be contacted to work on this
project. Questions concerning the use of penalties and the
possible establishment of a review board for the historic district
will be addressed. Guidelines will be worked out before the
districts are created. Michael Patton suggested that any changes
of a historic building be approved first through a building
review board and/or a historic review board.
1) The National Register could be used as a districting
