CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED - BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS <br />' Regular Meeting held aty City Hall - August 6,1969 <br />The meeting was called .to order at 7:35 P.M. by Chairman John Roberts. <br />Those present: Messrs. Roberts, Greene, Lancashire, Davis. <br />Also present: Mr. Gundy, Bldg. Commissioner <br />1.\. Appellant: Continuation of request for variance by Kroger Co., Union <br />Commerce Bank and Super-X Drug, corner of Lorain and Stearns <br />Rds., North Olmsted, to ereet a co-op pole sign with,the <br />-- Kroger portion of the sign in excess of permitted square <br />footage. Request is in violation of Ord. #62-33, Section <br />, 1225.02. . <br />Representing and present for the Kroger Co.,`Mr. Motts,and Mr. Maheu of <br />Brilliant Electric Sign Co. <br />Mr. Maheu submitted a new proposal for co-op signs for Kroger, Super-X Drugs, <br />and Union Commerce Bank. This one sign was described as 25 ft. from grade. <br />Square footage of Kroger Sign was 56 sq. ft., Super-X sign was 24 sq,: ft., <br />and the Union Commer-ce Barik sign 32 sq..ft. The location.of this sign to <br />be 25 feet East of the Stearns Rd. right of way, in line with the building • <br />set back on the Stearns Rd. side. <br />Mrs. Robert Kacirek of 29060 Lorain Rd., questioned the Board as to the <br />reasons for considering. the approval of this variance..; Chairman Roberts <br />explained tfiat each individual store was entitled to..a pole sign of up to <br />50 sq, ft. The Board-was considering whether or not one co-op sign contain- <br />ing less than 150 sq. ft. was not better for the? City. Motion was made by <br />Mr. Lancashire to grant the variance per plan submitted,.the maximum size <br />of co-op sign-115 sq. ft, The setback from Stearns Rd.. east'of the right <br />of way line to be ZS,.ft. and a11 parties represented on the co-op sign are <br />not to erect any individual Pole signs. Seconded by Mr. Greene. Approved <br />Unanimously. <br />2. Appellant: Continuation of request for variance by the Mark Restaurant, <br />24409 Lorain Rd., North Olmsted to erect a sign in excess of <br />permitted square footage. Req.uest is in violation of Ord. ` <br />#6Z-33 Section 12Z5.02. <br />This case presented by Mr. Spiroff and Mr. Mark Figetakis. <br />These gentlemen asked that the request, previously made, for a-108 sq. ft. <br />sign be voided. A new sign has been designed under the advisement of Mr. <br />Don Drumm, Artist.and Designer, reduced in size and copy 'to 70 sq. ft.,.the <br />overall height from grade will be 22 ft. Proposed sign will be installed in <br />existing concrete enclosed flower bed at?the West end of the parking lot <br />facing.torain Rd. The Board discussed the.-safety of location desired. <br />Mr. DaN?is made a motion to g'rant`the var'-iance as requested, seconded.by Mr. <br />Greene. Unanimously approved..`, ?
