LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MINUTES OF MARCH 12, 2018 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski <br />led the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Present: David Neville, Dale Thomas, Albert Richner, Tom Dubowslci, Bryan Walsh, <br />Julianne Nader, Paul Schumann <br />Absent: Maryellen Davis, Don Rerko <br />Staff: Director of Planning and Development Kimberly Wenger, Clerlc of Commissions <br />Donna Rote <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Walsh moved, seconded by Mr. Thomas, to approve the February 13, 2012 minutes as <br />amended which passed 7-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Designation of Landmarks <br />Ms. Wenger said she would be meeting with the owner of 25896 Butternut Ridge to discuss <br />seelcing a conditional use perinit and would raise the possibility of a dedication ceremony. <br />Mr. Schumann said the most unique thing about 4302 Porter Road home is the style of the home. <br />He researched Italianate style homes from 1850 through 1890 and compared it to the Porter <br />home. The home has quite a few of the distinctive features found in classic Italianate style <br />homes. He will continue to docuinent the Italianate characteristics of the home for the report. <br />The commission believed the sandstone home to be the only such home in North Olmsted. The <br />commission would like to tour the Porter home again to research structural materials and <br />possible additions. The clerlc was asked to arrange a date to visit the site. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />30095 Lorain Road <br />Mr. Morse and Mr. Hocevar, the owners of 30095 Lorain Road, appeared to seelc assistance from <br />the Commission to have their home landmarked. Mr. Thomas said one of the City's first mayors <br />resided within the home, Mayor Seltzer, who was an author of western novels some of which <br />were made into movies. There were a number of famous actors who visited and stayed in the <br />home. During his term he held mayors court within his home and would receive personal objects <br />as collateral for fine payinents. Mr. Morse said Lieu Seltzer wrote an autobiography about the <br />family and a chapter is on the home. Ms. Wenger reviewed different options available when <br />trying to seek historical recognition, including plaquiiig, Ohio Historical Marker program, or
