-i "- <br />LANDMARKS COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />MINUTES OF DECEMBER 8, 2014 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Chairman Neville called the ineeting to order at 7:03 p.m. in Council Chambers and led the <br />Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Present: David Neville, Jim Dubelko, Paul Schumann, Don Rerlco, Tom Dubowski, Duane <br />Limpert <br />Absent: Jim Morse, Gretchen Schuler <br />Staff: Clerlc of Cominissions Donna Rote. <br />Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Dubowslci to excuse the absences of Gretchen Schuler <br />and Jim Morse, which passed 6-0. <br />REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF 1VIINUTES <br />Mr. Dubowslci moved, seconded by Mr. Dubelko to approve the Landmarlcs Commission <br />minutes of November 10, 2014 as written, which passed 6-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />CMS14-2322; Anthony Samarian; 25747 Butternut Ridge Road <br />Proposal consists of a certificate of appropriateness to preserve wood shingles on the north <br />elevation and install vinyl siding on the south, east and west elevations. Note: Tabled 11/10/14 <br />Mr. Samarian said the home was recently purchased and they'.re trying to buckle the house up to <br />ensure no further damage. They were able to install a new roof however the previous owner <br />removed the siding from the east and south elevation. Although they would like to retain the <br />style and character of the home, most of the wood siding has been removed. They would like to <br />vinyl side the south, west and east elevations of the home using siding sized to match the wood <br />siding. They've received quotes for installing vinyl siding along the baclc and two sides of the <br />home and to salvage as much of the wood siding left to repair the front of the home. The ornate <br />trim tluoughout the front elevation will be restored or replaced to look similar. They would <br />prefer to just remove everything and vinyl side the entire home which would take less time. The <br />photos submitted show the siding is plank wood not shaker shingles. He would like to use the <br />vinyl on the entire home and just fix the ornate wood work along the front. <br />Mr. Neville said typically the commission looks at the age, style, history and condition of the <br />home. The home in question was once a barn which was converted into a home because the <br />family's home burned down. Mr. Schumann said the barn was repurposed into a home and the <br />style is colonial revival which is seen in the style of windows on the first and second floor and <br />accent framing around the doors and windows. The commission would not want the style of the <br />hoine changed or lose its historical character. He has no objections to using vinyl siding along <br />the back of the home but would prefer the front remain wood siding. The wood shingles are
