LANDMARKS COMMISSION CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED MINUTES OF OCTOBER 13, 2014 ROLL CALL Chairman Neville called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Present: David Neville, Paul Schumann, Dale Thomas, Jim Dubelko, Jim Morse, Gretchen Schuler Absent: Tom Dubowslci, Don Rerlco, Duane Limpert Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger ItEVIEW AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by Mr. Morse to approve the Landmarks Commission minutes of August 11, 2014 as written, which passed 6-0. NEW BUSINESS CMS14-1750; North Olmsted Board of Education; 27191 Butternut Ridge Road Proposal consists of a certificate of appropriateness for demolition of a house. Michael McDade said it is the intent of the district to demolish the home at 27191 Butternut Ridge Road as it is vacant and in poor condition. Demolition plans were distributed showing green space once the home is removed. Should the bond issue pass, there may be future plans for some development of the site. Mr. Neville said a few members viewed the home which had soine items of interest but there isn't much historical significance to the home. Mr. Morse and Mr. Schuinami agreed that it didn't appear the home had historical significance at least not, enough to save it. Mr. Neville aslced what would be done once the home is demolished as the site is very visible and neighboring homes should be buffered. Mr. McDade said as many trees as possible will remain, the area of the home and driveway will be seeded with grass and maintained. The abutting neighbors to the east will not be affected as the land will remain in a natural state for now. Mr. Schuinann recused hiinself from voting as he abuts the site. He asked what the contingency plan for the site was if the bond fails. Mr. McDade said the site would remain green space. They would like to have the demolition completed prior to December. Mr. Schumann asked if it was the intent of the district to return to Landmarks with a plan if the bond is approved and Mr. McDade said yes. Mr. Neil Nemetz said it appeared the commission was just addressing the demolition but when the annex was demolished there was quite a bit of dust and debris; he asked what would be done to minimize dust. Mr. McDade said the home is a small frame home so there won't be as much disturbance. Mr. Nemetz is concerned that there will be enough buffering between his property and the sites parlcing lot. Mr. McDade said at this point he doesn't have any plans pertaining to the development of the site or the amount of buffering. Mr. Tim Harbison said their home was purchased due to the amount of greenspace behind the home and while they are for updating the schools they would like to see as much of the area as possible i•emain in a natural state.
