CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
ARTS COlVIMISSION
MINUTES OF NOVEMBEIt 18, 2015
ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room.
Present: Bill Brake, Cailey Brake, Jeff Campbell, Sue Collander, JoAnn DePolo, Annie
Kilbane, Laura Simna, Lauren Suter, David Wahl
Absent: . Stephanie Procter, Nicole McClain
Staff: Planning & Development Director Kim Wenger
REVIEW AND COItRECTION OF MINUTES
Jeff moved, seconded by Sue, to approve the Arts Commission minutes of October 21, 2015
which passed unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
North Olmsted Noel
Plans are coming together for North Olmsted Noel. The lighting has been installed by Premier
Landscaping. Kim will check it out after dark to see if there are areas for enhancement for the
day of the event. There was overall concern that there be appropriate lighting for the last hour of
the event, possibly using decorative lighting rather than flood lights. Four food vendors are
attending, plus Sue's hot chocolate stand. She can use extra carafes for service, which Bill has.
Kim will see if the Senior Center has percolators for use and if there is a spare cooler for water.
Laura has engaged the Great Lakes Light Opera and Cleveland Brass Works for the event,
paperwork still forthcoming for the brass group. Brass will play from 3:00 to about 4:50 at which
time the crowd will gather and the mayor will make announcements. The choral group will sing
in Santa who will arrive via police cruiser as coordinated by Annie. Once Santa takes the stage,
recorded music will commence and the opera will relocate either outside or elsewhere in the
building depending on weather. Bill will coordinate recorded music and sound both inside and
out. SITES students will serve as elves, Cailey will outfit them. Sue has two selfie stations in the works, one inside and one outside. Both reindeer and sled dogs
are set, but will need to be somewhat separated. Dogs can be nearer the gazebo, reindeer closer
to the parking lot. Jeff is working on set up plans for the bonfire. Scouts will assist. Parks and
Recreation will handle children's activities, in the cabin and outside. Tickets will be given to
kids to participate and they will be able to win small prizes. Crafts are in and those will be
overseen by the Commission; Kim will get markers and table coverings. About 14 craft vendors
are confirmed with the possibility of more, in addition to bicentennial merchandise and the
Hixson's table. Lauren designed a rack card, now in circulation in social media. Also, six Noel
banners will be hung on Lorain in the vicinity of the park. Sue will provide additional signage for
the event, Kim needs to give her the list of needed signs. Set up and decorating will be Friday,
December 4 tl' at 2:00 p.m.
