CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />ARTS COMMISSION <br />NIINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2017 <br />6:30PM <br />ROLL CAI,L <br />The meeting was called to order at 6:40 p.m. in Council's Caucus Room. <br />Present: Jackie Anderson, Janelle Zauner, Lauren Suter, Leah Rogalski Davis <br />Absent: Annie Kilbane, Laura Simna <br />Staff: Planner James Aspery <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Jackie moved to approve the Arts Commission minutes of August 16th 2017, seconded by Leah. <br />Motion passed unanimously. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Event Recaps <br />Summer in the City - August 20 <br />James shared that the August concert drew about 50 attendees. James and Jackie expressed their <br />desire to revamp summer concert programming for 2018, citing low turnout compared to <br />expensive booking fees. It was agreed by all that advertising will also need to be significantly <br />increased in 2018. Ideas included one or two large events featuring several food trucks and bands <br />supported by heavy promotion to increase turnout and create a fun, fresh event different from <br />current Summer in the City programming. <br />Salutations in the Sun - September 2 <br />Leah and Jackie expressed their pleasure with the new event series, as the classes drew well over <br />200 attendees from June through September at a very low cost to the Commission. Jackie and <br />Leah expressed their optimism for improving this event even further in 2018, suggesting more <br />emphasis on promoting the Commission via printed handouts and use of a PA system (rented or <br />purchased) for easier communication with attendees. <br />Tea & Trumpets - September 10 <br />James thanked the members who assisted at the event, adding that the event went over quite well <br />for a first-time event and drew approximately 100 guests of all ages. There were some minor <br />issues with performance expectations versus reality, but overall the event achieved its stated <br />purpose of providing unique entertainment for grandparents and children alike. <br />It was agreed by all that the Commission will take a more active role in planning the 2018 event, <br />as opposed to providing funding and day-of support. James said that the Education Foundation <br />did a fantastic job of organizing the event, but the Commission will need to have more of a role <br />in coordinating and planning a future event.
