ROLL CALL:
Chairman Garland called the meeting to order at 6:55 pm.
PRESENT: Chairman R. Garland, Commissioners; B. Brown G. Yustick, D. Frazier, and F.
Curry.
ALSO PRESENT: Commission nominee David Wahl.
ABSENT: Commissioner B. Martindale.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
B. Brown moved to approve the Cultural Activities Commission minutes dated September
7, 2005 as written. R. Garland seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
Mr. Garland advised that he would like each of the members to start thinking about
increasing the number of inembers on the commission. If the commission truly wants to
work on bringing more art events to North Olmsted next suinmer they are going to need
more members. A possible member would be Marybeth Sherry who is a graduate student at
BW and Majoring in reading and an endorsement to teach art. Mrs. Brown believed that
Marybeth had a background working with children as well as art and believed that she
would be a good candidate to help with a children's art tent at next summers art show. Mr.
Garland believed that at least 3 more members should be added to the commission. Mr.
Frazier questioned if the Mayor was going to address staggering the Cultural Activities
Commission terms. Mr. Garland believed it was the intent of the Mayor to stagger the terms
however to date nothing has been done.
• Review of Dover Player's fall play
Mr. Garland advised that the Dover Players requested additional days at Old Town hall so
the play has been extended through the first weelcend of November. He advised that Mrs.
Martindale needed volunteers to help serve punch and cookies at the play if any members or
friends of inembers were interested they should contact Mrs. Martindale directly.
Mr. Garland questioned if all the members had an opportunity to view the school video on
the education channel. Mrs. Brown indicated that the video runs at the top of each hour for
8 minutes on the education channel and also can be seen on the education web site. The
school would like to improve the existing Middle School auditorium and all performances
by all schools will take place there once completed. Mr. Frazier advised that only the main
building would remain all the other structures would be removed.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
• Continued update on Library art.
Mrs. Brown indicated that there would possibly be an opening to the public for the art
chosen on November 10, 2005. The artist commissioned to create the main art piece for the
library has had health problems so the exact date is not certain. Mr. Garland indicated that
