CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CULTUI2AL ACTIVITIES COMMISSION <br />MEETING MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 4, 2009 <br />1tOLL CALL <br />Chair Yustick called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. at the North Olmsted Branch Library. <br />Present: Gerald Yustick, Beverle Martindale, David Wahl, John Kepperley, Faye Curry <br />Also Present: Paul Schumann, President of the Olmsted Historical Society and Chair of North <br />Olmsted Landmarks Commission <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINU'I'ES <br />Mr. Kepperly moved, seconded by Ms. Wahl, to approve the minutes of January 7, 2009, as <br />corrected, which were approved, 5-0. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Juried Arts & Crafts Festival <br />Differences between the North Coast Promotions flyer and the Kiwanis flyer discussed. Through <br />a team effort the Kiwanis flyers have been copied and mailed. Copies of the Ohio Arts Festival <br />Book were distributed; the art show will be listed in the publication. It was noted that the <br />information on the show is not yet on the City website. The Band and Orchestra Boosters have <br />requested to sell smoothies, corn, and fruit cups at the show as a fundraiser. Mr. Schumann said <br />the Boosters haci a table at a Frostville festival; they did a very good job. However, the mixers <br />do make noise. Mr. Schumann suggests placing their table in a location where the sound will not <br />be a distraction. It was agreed to provide the Boosters a table at no charge to sell smoothies. <br />Black History Month <br />Along with a static display for Black History Month, the North Olmsted Library has scheduled <br />several events. On February 9 at 7:00 p.m. the Library will host the Cuyahoga County <br />Community College Afro Caribbean Ensemble. On February 18 at 7:00 p.m. a presentation will <br />be made on the Underground Railroad. On February 19 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. a presentation for <br />children has been scheduled. Parents are asked to register their children, kindergarten through <br />fifth grade, for attendance at this event. Several local papers are running ads for Black History <br />Month and some of these events are posted on Cleveland.com. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Centennial of Village of North Olmsted and City Schools <br />Mr. Schumann explained that two events are being celebrated in 2009, both the City of North <br />Olmsted Schools and the Village of North Olmsted will be 100 years old. The Schools are <br />planning an event for this fall to commemorate the anniversary of the school system. Mr.
