- LANDMARKS COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
MEETING MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 9, 2009
ROLL CALL
Mr. Schumann called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowski
led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: Paul Schumann, Tom Dubowski, Maryellen Davis, Larry Orlowski, Thomas
Schock, Dale Thomas, Don Rerko
Absent: Jeff Herwick, John Lasko
Staff: Planning Director Kimberly Wenger, Secretary Tricia Granfors
REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES
Pertaining to the October 12, 2009 minutes, Mr. Schock requested language be added to Mr.
Rerko's comments concerning Certified Local Government Grant ideas: Mr. Dubowski noted
grammatical errors in the same section. Ms. Davis moved, seconded by Mr. Schock, to
approve the October 12, 2009 minutes as amended, which were unanimously approved.
NEW BUSINESS
James Bridges; 26902 Butternut Ridge Road, PPN 235-04-006:
A request for a Certificate of Appropriateness for a new roof
Mr. Bridges explained the roof of his house was originally slate. About 25-30 years ago a
former owner installed asphalt shingles over the slate roof, which are now in poor condition and
the roof is failing in a couple places. Due to the expense of slate and the pitch of the roof over
the porch he has researched other options and feels the Slateline material submitted to the
Commission for approval is the best choice. Pending approval he intends to have the roof
installed before the winter weather begins. The project will be a total tear-off. The garage will
have shingles installed over the existing. Mr. Schumann noted the Bridges family has worked to
keep their home historically accurate and in good repair. Mr. Rerko indicated many roofing
companies will buy used slate. Mr. Bridges said he does not expect the slate to be in saleable
condition. Ms. Wenger advised Mr. Bridges to contact the Building Department to confirm the
contractor has registered and obtains the necessary permits.
Mr. Rerko moved, seconded by Mr. Orlowski, to grant James Bridges of 26902 Butternut
Ridge Road a Certificate of Appropriateness to install a new roof as submitted, which was
unanimously approved.
OLD BUSINESS
North Olmsted Citv Schools; 27501 Butternut Ridge Road, PPN 235-16-021:
A request for a Certificate of Appropriateness to demolish the existing house. This case was
tabled August 10, 2009 pending discussions between the Board of Education and the Olmsted
