PLAIVNING & DESIGN COMMISSION <br />CITY OF NORTH OLMS'Y'ED <br />MINUTES FOR AUGUST 25, 2010 <br />ROLL CALL <br />Mr. Laslco called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.in. in Council Chambers and led the Pledge of <br />Allegiance. <br />Present: John Laslco, Don Rerlco, Ralph Bohlmann, Robert Parry, Greg Malone <br />Absent: Melissa Meredith, Jim Cotner <br />Staff: Planning Director Kimberly Wenger, Assistant Law Director Bryan O'Malley, City <br />Engineer Pete DiFranco, Building Commissioner Dale Mitchell, Clerk of <br />Commissions Dom1a Rote <br />REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br />Mr. Lasko moved, seconded by 1VIr. Malone, to approve the Planning and Design <br />Commission minutes of August 11, 2010, which was approved 5-0. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />CMS10-23 Technologv Park; PP# 236-13-005 & 008, O11 <br />Representatives: Jeff Boss, site inanager; Matt Kuehnle, Vocon <br />Ms. Wenger said the proposal is to create additional parking and modify landscaping at <br />Technology Parlc. More parlcing is needed due to the growing number of employees worlcing in <br />the two buildings. The applicant proposes to eliminate the grass median at the entryway between <br />the buildings and insta1128 new angled parking spaces with landscaped islands located on either <br />end of the new parking. Additional trees are proposed along the front parlcing setbaclc of Tech <br />Parlc II which need to be specified in type and planting size. The property is zoned Mixed Use <br />A. In this district, the Planning and Design Commission has the authority to review and approve <br />amendments to the detailed development plan. Mr. Mitchell noted lighting was pre-existing and <br />minimal curbing would be removed. Mr. DiFranco said that the scope of work is below <br />requiring a new storm water management plan. <br />Mr. Kuehnle said the pin oalcs became diseased during CEI trimming so they will be replaced <br />with honey locust trees which are hardier. They will match the existing groupings and replace <br />those trees which were removed. He noted more colorfill plants were added to the islands. <br />Mr. Malone said he would prefer Callery Pear trees to match the parking area. All trees should <br />be planted at a minimum of 2%z inch caliper. While viewing the site it was evident that it is well <br />used 1nd parking spaces were hard to find. Daylilllies, junipers and grasses each should be <br />planted a minirnum of 3 gallon and roses planted a minimum of 5 gallon. Mr. Rerlco said he <br />thought there would be a safety issue with the proposed parlcing but there is no other location to <br />expand the parlcing. The light poles should have concrete bases to protect the poles near the new <br />parlcing. Mr. Kuehnle said the area is mounded and the bases will be concrete. Mr. Parry
