LANDMARKS COlVIMIS5ION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTEI)
MINUTES FOR JUNE 13, 2011
ROLL CALL
Mr. Thomas called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers and Mr. Dubowslci led
the Pledge of Allegiance.
Present: David Neville, Dale Thomas, Albert Richner, Tom Dubowski, Maryellen Davis,
Paul Schumann, Don Rerko, Bryan Walsh
Absent: Robert Parry
Staff: Director of Planning and Development Kimberly Wenger, Clerk of Commissions
Donna Rote
REVIEBV AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES Mr. Schumann moved, seconded by 1VIrs. Davis, to approve the May 9, 2011 minutes as
written which passed 5-0. Mr. Rerko abstained.
OLI) BUSINESS
Speaker Series
Ms. Wenger said the Nickel Plate Railroad information is needed so the information can be
posted on the city website and cable channel. The office will also create a flyer which can be
distributed. Mr. Schumann said he would address the Olmsted Historical Society board to
receive final approval. He will forward the Frostville flyers to provide the office the information
needed.
Designation of Landmarks
4302 Porter Road
Mr. Thomas said that the map distributed is from 1858 and shows the stone quarry, Knight,
Beebe, and Smith properties. Mr. Rerko said his home is located on the quarry site and was once
connected to Porter Road. The map shows the Knight home already built when the map was
released. The previous owner of his home was Martin Lansing whom the street is named after.
Martin Lansing built his home, and though the exact date is unlcnown, there is an 1840's map
which shows the home built. Mr. Thomas said in 1858 the quarry area was part of Dover
Township and wasn't part of the village until 1909 or 1910. The architectural style of the Knight
home is Italianate, and constructed from sandstone. He then reviewed information found in the
1850, 1880, and 1910 Census pertaining to the Porter Road home. Mr. Schumann noted that the
Italianate style was not in the area until 1860. Board members believe that the home was built in
1860 as indicated on the carving over the door.
