ROLL CALL: <br />Mr. Tallon called tha meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. <br />PRESESNT ARE: Chairman, R. Tallon, Commissioners; K. O'Rourlce, T. Brennan R. Koeth, S. <br />Asseff, and W. Spalding, <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director, J. Dubelko, Building Commissioner, D. Conway, <br />Engineering Commissioner, P. Deichinann, and Clerk of Commissions, D. Rote. <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES: R. Tallon moved to accept the November 10, <br />1998 Planning Commission minutes as wi-itten. The motion was seconded by, K. O'Rourlce, and <br />unanimously approved. R. Tallon moved to accept the Novetnber 24, 1998 Planning Commission <br />minutes as written. The motion was seconded by, T. Brenna.n, and unanimously approved. <br />III. BUILDING DEPARTMENT REQLTESTS: <br />A) Norwalk Furniture; 25313 Lorain Road: <br />Proposal consists of renovating the exterior and interior tenant space in existing shopping <br />center. Note: A variance for front setbaclc will be required. <br />Mr. Schill presented Norwalk Furniture proposal. Mr. Schill indicated the furniture store is <br />located in Olmsted Plaza Center, on the south side of Lorain Road. Norwallc has rented three <br />spaces at the eastern end of the center, which once was Daffy Dan's, AT&T, and Furniture <br />Nook. The proposal is to renivate the extior to bring the store in line with their corporate loolc. <br />As the store sits at a decline from the street the front of the store will be remodeled to give it a <br />presence, and make it appear to be individual from the rest of the shopping center. The front <br />will be renovated with dryvit material, have black awnings and the store front refaced. To <br />capture attention from Lorain Road a pediment will be placed over the entrance with Norwallcs <br />signage on it. Mr. Tallon questioned how high the highest peak would stand. Mr. Schill <br />suggested the top of the pealc is 25' feet from the sidewalk, 10' feet above street line. NIi-. <br />Bremian indicated page Gl showed baclc lit awnings. Mr. Schill suggested baclc lit lighting in <br />the awnings is standard with Norwallc furnitut-e. Mr. Brennan asked how they intend to restricfi <br />the light to strictly tlie logo, as the City is trying to discourage the use of baclc lit signs. Mr. <br />Schill indicated the fabric is black canvas no light will come through that. Mr. Tallon <br />questioned Mr. Conway about the logo's being part of the sign package. Mr. Conway suggested <br />the awnings/fabric are not but the requested logo's are a part of the sign package. Mr. Schillaci <br />indicated it is an opaque material solid black , the only light that will show through will be the <br />red and white in the logo, Mr. Spalding inquired if Norwalk would be separated from the <br />remainder of the strip center. Mr. Scliill suggested it would be a part of the same building but <br />have it's own identity. Mr. Tallon questioned what part of the frontage was in need of a <br />1
