ROLL CAI.,L:
Present: B. Zergott; M. Yager; and T. Liggett.
Also present: Clerk o£ Commissions Cornish.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NIINUTES:
III. SIGNS:
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
1) Pronosed Candlewood Hotel, located on the south side of Country Club Blvd., east-adjacent
to the newly constructed Homestead Village Hotel. Proposal to construct Hotel. Heard by
planniug commission March 10, 1998. Heard by architectural review board March 18, 1998.
Mr. Nemecek advised since the last meeting a compromise has been submitted. Mr. Yager stated
he reviewed the partiaY elevations and had the following comments: "NVe would approve these
elevations if tliey were all brick. Tlie notes on the attached sheets are a compromise at best and
might be rejected by city council, although our architectural review board would compromise for
the noted documents. You decide what the potential delay in approvals would mean to your
project." Mr. Nemecek stated tlie signage issue has not been discussed in detail at the
arclutectural review board level and he wondered if that can be presented first. Mr. Yager
requested that the discussion be restricted to the build.ing only since a special meeting was called
for this purpose and the members are on a time restraint. Mr. Nemecek stated he agreed to a
compromise. He would like the arch ways to remain the dryvit material as the gables themselves
would have to,become steal if brick is requ.ired in the gable area. He wondered if the brick in the
gables could be placed elsewhere, such as constructing tlie gazebo in brick. Mr. Yager wondered
if there were new blue print's showing these revised elevations. Mr. Nemecek explained there
was not enough time to do another blue print. Mr. Melby reiterated the problem vvitla malcing the
gables brick Ys this has to become steel and all the support systems will also have to be steel. Mr.
Liggett approved of the elevation. Mr. Yager was unsure what the elevation loolced like as tlie
presentation was a fax and the submittal depicts the original building of all Dryvit. He noted this
special meeting was called to resolve what the elevations should look like, yet there is no
resolution to an elevation that the board can review. Mr. Nemecek stated the board should know
what a four story, all brick stair tower will look like. Mr. Yager maintained he did not know what
it would look like as he does not lmow how far it will wrap around, the plan relationslup to the
elevations, etc. Mr. Liggett questioned if the developer can show a plan that the board can look
at and see where tlie brick is going. He quesrioned if tlie stau tower will return to a perpendicular
wall or if it is all flush. Mr. Nemecek confirmed tlie return would be into tlie corner. Mr. Liggett
stated the floor plan should clear up the returns. Mr. Yager pointed out the floor plan is not
