CITY OF NORTH[ OLMSTEI)
"TOGETHEI2 WE CAN NiAIZE A DIFFERENCE"
LANI)MAItKS COMMISSION
OLD TOWN HALL
MIlNU'd'ES AUGUS'I' 13, 2001
7:00 P.M.
I. ROLL CALL:
Chairman Lord called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
PRESENT: Chairman B. Lord, P. Barker, M. Davis, K. O'Rourke, G. Corell, C. Kasler and L.
VanAuken.
ABSENT: A. Smeraldi, and D. Lind.
II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINi7TES:
The Landmarks Corrunission minutes of the July 9, 2001 meeting have been submitted for
approval.
L. VanAuken motioned to accept the Landmarks minutes dated July 9, 2001 as written. The
motion was seconded by M. Davis and unanimously approved.
III. NEW BUSINESS:
Anthonv Mancuso27260 Butternut Ridge Rd.
The proposal consists of a shed. (10'x10'x10') = 100 Square feet.
Chairman Lord questioned if Mr. Mancuso proposed to build a shed in his backyard. Mr.
Mancuso replied correct. Mrs. Lord explained that as he lived in the historic district, there is
concern that this board preserves the historic aspect of the community. She invited him to share
lus plans with the board. Mr. Mancuso showed the board pictures of different types of sheds that
he considered and the one that he picked to build. Mrs. O'Rourke questioned where on his
property this shed would be going. Mr. Mancuso indicated that he submitted a draft of his
backyard showing where the shed would go. He indicated that it could go on the left or right
side of the rear yard. Looking at it from the street, if it where to go on the right, it would be
visible in the street, but on the left side of the backyard it would not be visible from the street. It
made no difference to him; he just needs a place to store his yard equipment. Mrs. Lord
questioned how old he thought his house was. Mr. Mancuso replied it was built in 1943. It is
almost 60 years old. Mrs. Lord indicated that one of the things that they have encouraged
people to do is to not make things like new sheds visible from the street. Mr. Mancuso replied
that's why they should place it on the left side of his backyard. Ms. VanAuken questioned if it
would be a color that would blend in with his house. Mr. Mancuso indicated that it would blend,
he would not have contrasting colors. Mrs. Lord questioned if the board had any further
comments or questions. Nobody did. Chairman Lord called for a motion.
K. O'Rourke motioned to grant a certificate of appropriateness to Anthony Mancuso of 27260
Butternut Ridge Rd, to build a shed on the left rear corner of his yard. Shed is to be barn-style
and colors to coordinate with the house. The motion was seconded by M. Davis and
unanimously approved. Certificate Granted 8/13/01.
