ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Raig called the meeting to order at 7:30pm. <br />PRESENT: Chairman, M. Raig, Board members; B. Martindale, B. App, L. Beach, C. <br />Kilbane, R. Garland and G. Thompson. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Clerk of Commissions; D. Rote. <br />II. REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF NIINUTES: <br />Chairman Raig indicated that no packets were sent out. Review and correction of the August <br />7, 2001 minutes would take place at the October meeting. <br />III. NEW BUSINESS: - <br />l. Review documentation on other municipalities Cultural Arts Commissions. <br />Mr. Raig indicted that the Mayors secretary has submitted a matrix/chart. It shows that 58 <br />cities were contacted to find out if they had a Cultural Arts Commission and none of the 58 <br />cities did, however, 4 of the cities have cultural arts buildings that are not run or owned by <br />the city. Mrs. Martindale suggested that other cities might call their art representatives <br />something different. The Clerk commented that the Mayors secretary was trying to find out <br />if other cities had a commission, so the board could review their City ordinances or by-laws <br />regarding Cultural Arts. Mr. Raig suggested expanding the search further than surrounding <br />areas and questioned if any board members had suggestions. Mr. Garland suggested that he <br />had a book that listed all the arts and festivals in the state of Ohio. There is Ohio Arts <br />Council that has an Internet site, which list Art Councils in the state of Ohio. Mr. Raig <br />suggested that the clerk look into the site and contact some of the councils listed for <br />information. Mr. Garland suggested that Berea would be hosting the Chautauqua festival <br />next summer. He is not sure what will be done, but he has requested a representative be sent <br />to speak at the next chamber of commerce meeting. The festival will run June 20th through <br />the 24th, 2002. Mrs. App indicated that there is a big cultural art center that serves artists in <br />the area. She ran a search on the internet and found a list of Art Councils. Mr. Garland <br />suagested that the Ohio Art Council funds an artist in residence who travels to schools <br />speaking, however the city does not receive the money, the artist does. Mrs. Martindale <br />believes that an art festival would do well in the North Olmsted area. She suggested having a <br />Victorian festival in November at the library. North Olmsted should look at having a festival <br />at least once a year. Mrs. Beach questioned if any monies had been appropriated for the <br />board. Mr. Raig indicated that at this point there has been no City funds appropriated to the <br />board. At the first meeting a sub committee was setup to look into receiving grants. Mrs. <br />Beach suggested that most grant money is only granted if it meets specific criteria. Mrs. App <br />commented that she has been searching the internet and inost federal funds have eligibility <br />requirements, 1. There has to be a three-year history of programming. 2. There has to be a <br />professiona] staff that can volunteer the time to accomplish the project. 3. The grant money
