REVIEW AND CORRECTION OF MINUTES:
The Architectural Review Board minutes for November 20, 2002 have been submitted for
approval.
K. Schulz motioned to approve the Architectural Review Board minutes dated November
20, 2002 as written. M. Yager seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. Mr.
Yager and other board members commented that they liked the new format of the minutes. They
found the minutes easier to read and follow.
III. SIGNS:
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
Daniel E. Margulies (Pepper 7oe's Restaurant); 24532 Lorain Road:
Proposal consists of interior renovation for restaurant including new handicapped ramp, canvas
canopy, railings, signage, etc. Note: Planning Commission tabled this proposal on 7-9-02 and
referred this to Architectural Review Board 11-12-02. Architectural Review Board tabled this 11-
20-02.
Chairman Zergott called all interested parties forward to review the proposal. Mr. Margulies,
the Project Coordinator and Mr. George the owner each came forward to review the proposal.
Applicants presentation;
Mr. Margulies indicated that the parapet color is changed and the railing is now vertical. They
incorporated Mr. Yager's suggestion to use pepper cutouts. Mr. Yager questioned if the cutouts
would be constructed from wood or metal and would they be painted. Mr. Margulies indicated
that they would be painted metal.
Board members questions & comments;
Mr. Yager thought the goal was to use plasma cutting along the front, which can be open or
opaque, as the applicants want. Mr. George questioned if Mr. Yager wanted a sculpture or
something of that nature. Mr. Yager felt that more was needed to draw customers to the site.
The suggestions made at the last meeting were meant to help draw customers to your restaurant.
The canopy remains the same and their request was to make it more dynamic or prominent so that
it could become a calling card for the restaurant. The railing creates a separation between the
wooden area, block wall and glass entrance. There is still automobile activity taking place on the
site so the applicants need to divert patrons attention away from the automobile component. Mr.
George described his other restaurant to the board members and questioned if they had seen it.
They used neon lights not only on the signage but placed neon lights on the building as well. He
questioned if the board would like them to use the neon lights on this site. The applicants were
