<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />NORTH OLMSTED PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING <br /> <br />July 12, 1999 <br /> <br /> <br />Meeting called to order: 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Attendance: Mayor Norm Musial <br /> Claire Hayes, Chairman <br /> Dave Gardner, Member <br /> Carolyn Kasler, City Council Member <br /> Rich Scott, Member <br /> Tom Jenkins, Safety Director <br /> Todd Morgan, Acting Commissioner <br /> Tim Smith, Vice-Chairman <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> Robert Kasler, Member <br /> Patricia Scott, Secretary <br /> <br />Visitors: Rae Ann Thomas, Skate Board Park <br /> Mary Creadon, Administrative Assistant. <br /> <br />Motion of Minutes Approved: <br />Mrs. Hayes asked the members to review the minutes of the last meeting on May 10, 1999. A <br />motion was made, seconded and passed unanimously to accept the minutes as mailed. <br /> <br />Visitors Opportunity to Address Commission: <br />Rae Ann Thomas is requesting permission to commence with constructing the skateboard park. <br />An architect has surveyed the area and money is available. Mrs. Kasler stated there were <br />several neighbors at the resident meeting who were concerned about the liability of the <br />Skateboard Park. Mrs. Kasler also questioned the maintenance and cost of the park. Mrs. <br />Thomas stated that she will do a yearly fund raiser for maintenance which will be minimal. It will <br />cost approximately $120,000 to build the park and Mrs. Thomas stated they have raised about <br />$30,000. After Some discussion regarding the park a motion was made that the Recreation <br />Commission recommend to the Council Committee that the plans and progress proceed for the <br />Skateboard Park. Carolyn Kasler abstained from the motion, all others in favor. <br /> <br />Report by Acting Commissioner: <br />Mr. Morgan stated that the Ultimate Frisbee Class, is a new program that is appealing to <br />youngsters wishing to be involved in organized sports in the North Olmsted Parks and <br />Recreation Department. Keith Brooks, one of our softball players, had the opportunity to go to <br />Jacob’s Field through a baseball diamond skills program. <br />This week the concert in the park was the Barber Shop Quartet. Over 150 people attended the <br />event, the largest attendance this summer. We also had about 300 to 400 people attend the <br />movie in the park last Thursday. <br /> <br />
