MINUTES OF A MEETING OF THE
NORTH OLMSTED PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
March 3, 2008

Meeting called to order: 7:01 p.m.

In Attendance: Terry Groden, Chairperson
John J. Lasko, Jr., Co-Chairperson

John Dailey, Director, Community Life Services
Mark Mahoney, Councilman

Ted DiSalvo, Commissioner
Betsy Drenski, Assistant Commissioner
Norm Baxter, Member
Julie Nader, Member
Chris Scarl, Member

Visitors: Rae Anne Thomas, Skate Park Coordinator
Linda Powell, Tennis
Ed Garrity, NOHC

Mr. Groden opened the meeting with the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance by all; roll call was
taken.

VISITORS’ OPPORTUNITY TO ADDRESS COMMISSION

Donated Ramps

Ms. Thomas began by stating that a few months ago Bay Village had donated some skate board ramps
to North Olmsted Skate Park. She just learned that they were accepted as a donation to North
Olmsted. She, her husband, and a few other people went to Bay Village and disassembled them. They
are now in a storage facility with a friend. What she needs to know is: where can she put these ramps
now that they are disassembled; they take up half the Rec Commission office space. Mr. DiSalvo
asked if they could be stored outside; Ms. Thomas said that yes, they can go outside. If they are
stored back here, it would be $3,500 for the concrete to set the ramp on. Ms. Thomas showed
pictures to the Commission. They are made from polycarbonate steel and plastic. They are in four
foot sections. Mr. Dailey asked Mr. DiSalvo if he had anything around the Rec Center for storage.
Mr. DiSalvo said yes, but the problem is in securing them. When disassembled, will a tarp cover
them? Ms. Thomas said yes; but she did not want to overextend….if it’s O.K., she can then again
trailer them here. Mr. Dailey asked where the friend had them stored. Ms. Thomas said they are at
Brookpark Road and Ridge. Then he asked how big of a trailer it would take to move the ramps; Ms.
Thomas said it took two trailer loads – a car trailer. She said she was not approved for the Key Bank
grant; although they said to keep up the good work, and they loved the idea. She wanted to know
what it would take to raise the $3,500; what it will take to have competition back there – it seems as if
it’s what the kids want to do. She can get the most people there in one shot. She needs to know the
