Gareau, Jr., Councilman
Randi Jones, Member

William D. Kelley, Member
Ted DiSalvo, Recreation Commissioner

Absent: Anna Kanis, Member

Visitors: None

The Meeting was called to order and roll-call taken. Motion to approve the minutes from May, as
read, was made by Mr. Kelley, with a second by Mr. Jesse. Roll was called; all were in favor;
Claire Hayes abstaining in her May absence; Motion passed. No corrections or additions were
requested.

REPORT BY RECREATION COMMISSIONER

Operations and Service Receptionist Schedule

Mr. DiSalvo began his report explaining the new Rec Center Operations and Service Receptionist
Schedule, attached hereto as Exhibit A. The times the programs begin, the times the Rec Center
opens and the times the Receptionist should be here for the summer months are indicated on the
schedule. The schedule will remain the same until September, when the doors will open at 5:00
a.m., with one exception. The weekends will host group hockey, and swimming will not open at
7:00 a.m. Instead of a receptionist, there will be a building supervisor opening up. Ms. Hayes
commented that the only actual program start time is 5:30 for the rink.
Mr. DiSalvo stated that the schedule will begin on Monday, June 16, because the current staff is
scheduled until mid-June. There are 13 cashiers on payroll now. With the new schedule, there
will be six cashiers through scheduling longer shifts and better coordination. Mr. Gareau asked if
the remaining cashiers left or were reallocated within the facility. Mr. DiSalvo responded that,
with the exception of one, everyone understood what was going to happen since a meeting in
March. There was an ad put into the Sun, to which 30 people or so replied. The people that are
being hired are retired; they have income; and they have the background for it. All of them have
15 or 20 years' service experience, e.g., with the airlines or banks, and they are all pleasant people.
Ms. Jones asked how many people were let go. The Commissioner said that seven people were.
Of the seven, four worked one day a month to stay on payroll, which was a nightmare for
scheduling because it was taking days or hours away from the people who could work. Mr.
Gareau stated that this will cost more money for more hours, and Mr. Baxter
