RECREATION COMMISSION
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
26000 LORAIN ROAD
MINUTES FOR MAY 7, 2012
7:00 P.M.

CALL TO ORDER

Mr. Ruggles called the meeting to order at 7:01 at the Recreation Complex Administrative
Offices
and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL

Present: Ed Garrity, Marty Clancy, Chris Scarl, Paul Ruggles

Absent: Terry Groden, Kevin Kearney

Staff: Betsy Drenski, Commissioner; Chris Wetmore, Assistant Commissioner

Visitor: None

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Due to technical difficulties the minutes for April 2, 2012 are not available.

COMMISSIONER DRENSKI:

REC. CENTER REPAIRS / WORK UPDATE

Ms. Drenski reported they found some issues with the Pool Pac unit due to a poor installation.
There is a one year labor warranty however PK Mechanical could not come out in a timely
manner and we were loosing too much oil so we had Brewer Garrett take over the repairs.
All of the leaks have been taken care of except for one inside the unit that is a result of the
installation. We have also had some fans and motors burn out when the power goes out which
is getting costly. We want to talk with the building department to see what can be done to protect
our HVAC units during a power outage and/or surge.

Mr. Wetmore reported that the swing sets at North Olmsted Park have been enclosed with play
curbs and playground mulch. Swing mats are in place and a ADA swing for the younger children
and one for the older children have been installed. The ADA ramps are on backorder and should
arrive within the week. At Barton and Bradley Park the new playground equipment has been
installed, also new playground mulch. These items came from a $5,000 grant sponsored by
Toyota. We will also be purchasing play curbs to enclose that swing set and a ADA ramp. All
of our parks are accessible and safe with the exception of the playground equipment at the
Recreation Center by the outdoor pool. The small newer structure has cracks in the beams. The
company that manufactured it is out of business so we are debating whether or not to construct
our own beams or take the structure out. The older equipment there needs to be replaced
and will have to be budgeted for next year.
