CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO <br />;MINUTES <br />September 22, 1983 <br />New Business <br />Minutes -Sept. 22,1983 <br />-4- <br />Promotional Fire Exam: Chief Van Kuren reported to the Commission <br />that due to a retirement occurring at the end of the year and the <br />requirement that the promotional candidates be given adequate time <br />to study the appropriate material, he would like the Commission's <br />approval to begin the mechanics of test and material selection. <br />Approval granted.The Fire .Chief also asked the Commission as to <br />whether it was proper to schedule the promotional test in anticipation <br />of the vacancy so that continuity of the position could be immediate, <br />or was an actual an actual vacancy required before the test could be give <br />It was the opinion of the commission members present that the vacancy <br />had to be declared and a request made to the Commission for the <br />new list if there was no viable list in effect. The Commission <br />also stated that eligibility criteria had to be met at the time <br />the teest was given. <br />Revision and UD -Date: members were given a rough draft of new and re- <br />vised rules regarding the"Examination Process"for certified lists. <br />Mrs. Bahas asked the members to review the proposed rules and <br />and to note the problem of expense regarding publishing costs of the <br />Plain Dealer. She suggested to the Commission that they consider <br />using the services of the Elyria Chronicle to announce the next <br />civil service tests as it was also a daily newspaper, satisfied the <br />-O.R.C. requirements of a neighborhood newspaper, and had a circulation <br />that embraced a population of all economic and social backgrounds. <br />Commission members directed the secretary to make enquiries to the <br />Chronicle regarding their publishing fees. <br />Bd. of Education Clerk -Typist Tests Identification envelopes of the <br />seventy seven candidates were opened with the following list of names <br />becoming eligible for the Clerk=Typist Typing Test! <br />
