CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO ;MINUTES September 22, 1983 New Business Minutes -Sept. 22,1983 -4- Promotional Fire Exam: Chief Van Kuren reported to the Commission that due to a retirement occurring at the end of the year and the requirement that the promotional candidates be given adequate time to study the appropriate material, he would like the Commission's approval to begin the mechanics of test and material selection. Approval granted.The Fire .Chief also asked the Commission as to whether it was proper to schedule the promotional test in anticipation of the vacancy so that continuity of the position could be immediate, or was an actual an actual vacancy required before the test could be give It was the opinion of the commission members present that the vacancy had to be declared and a request made to the Commission for the new list if there was no viable list in effect. The Commission also stated that eligibility criteria had to be met at the time the teest was given. Revision and UD -Date: members were given a rough draft of new and re- vised rules regarding the"Examination Process"for certified lists. Mrs. Bahas asked the members to review the proposed rules and and to note the problem of expense regarding publishing costs of the Plain Dealer. She suggested to the Commission that they consider using the services of the Elyria Chronicle to announce the next civil service tests as it was also a daily newspaper, satisfied the -O.R.C. requirements of a neighborhood newspaper, and had a circulation that embraced a population of all economic and social backgrounds. Commission members directed the secretary to make enquiries to the Chronicle regarding their publishing fees. Bd. of Education Clerk -Typist Tests Identification envelopes of the seventy seven candidates were opened with the following list of names becoming eligible for the Clerk=Typist Typing Test!
