4"a .
CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
NORTH OLMSTED, OHIO
.VaDoam
CIVIL SERVICE MEETING - APRIL 26, 1990
PRESENT: Tom Stroh - Chairman
Henry Robinson, Bob Wendt - Commissioners
Tracy Ice, Secretary
GUESTS: Police Chief Sefcek, Fire Chief Vankuren, Asst.
Fire Chief Roger Osterhouse, Director of Safety
Ernest Gundy, Service Director Ralph Bohlmann,
Personnel and Administrative Services Director
Ron Wilamosky, Westli-fe Reporter F1ash.Fairfield.
MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED AS READ.
OLD BUSINESS:
Fire Chief Vankuren advised us that he is reviewing four of the
seven candidates that are still interested in the Dispatcher
vacancies. The last test was given on May 10, 1989. Chief
Vankuren will let the commission know if another dispatcher
test needs to be given after the background investigations.
The question of should credit be given for police/fire candidates
for paramedic and educational backgrounds along with military?
The answer was.the system as of -now is working so let's leave
as is based on the contract.
NEW BUSINESS:
Commissioner Henry Robinson felt that we should lower the passing
scores for police/fire candidates so that we can hire more minorities.
Some people felt that we only want the best qualified people or
should I say the people who scored the highest in our jobs.. Henry
thought that if we do not lower the scores and hire minorities
now that later on down the road we will be told to hire some
and have to reschedule another test to be taken instead of
just trying to weed through our list now. As of this time,
we do not know how many minorities passed the written police
test and how many will be taking the agility test. Henry thought
it would save us time and money. Ron Wilamosky and Tracy Ice
will look into getting names of area newspapers who focuses on where
minorities live.
Should credit be given to a police candidate who did not have
his DD214 form? The form which this person sent in is an AF -100
which is for the Air Force and is the same as a DD214 form. This
candidate has two years of inactive service left. Therefore,
credit was given to this candidate. and he,will be able-to.take
the agility test.
