Ads will run in the newspapers from June 10th
to June 21, 1992. Cut-off date is June 25, 1992.
Mr. Gundy has gone through a list of employees in the City who he was
not sure if they should have Civil Service Coverage. The Commission
then advised Tracy Ice to contact Department Heads regarding these
certain employees in questioned and to get their date of hire and
ask whether they ever took a Civil Service test for that job. Letters
will be going out soon to those Department Heads.
Henry Robinson said that Mike Gareau told him verbally that Marella
Varanese should be covered under Civil Service. A letter confirming
this in writing is forthcoming. When Civil Service receives this
letter Chief Osterhouse and Marella will be copied on this.
American Disability --- Jim Hines has a book regarding this which he
reviewed. In his opinion, there are certain situations where some
changes could be made like building a ramp so that an employee can get
into the building but extreme changes are not required. Chief
Osterhouse said that when interviewing, that certain questions are not
allowed during a polygraph to be asked until after a person is hired.
You can not ask any medical questions while taking a polygraph test,
yet questions can be rephrased. Chief Osterhouse gave the commission
copies of Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 from Ed Favre.
Chief Osterhouse would like the application to read that all
candidates must "SUCCESSFULLY PASS THE POLYGRAPH". This will be added
to the application package.
