CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
5200 Dover Center Road • North Olmsted, Ohio 44070
Phone: 777-8000 Ext. 232
Fax: 777-5889
CIVIL SERVICE MEETING MINUTES: December 17, 1992
PRESENT: Chairman Jim Hines, Commissioner Glenn Marks,
Secretary Tracy Ice
GUESTS: Mr. Gundy, Police Sefcek, Jacqui Templeton - Westlife,
Pat Harrison, Sally Costa, Ernest Cummings of the High
School
MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING APPROVED AS READ.
OLD BUSINESS
Police Promotional Sergeant's examination is scheduled for
January 18, 1993 at the Community Cabin at 9:00 am. There are 18
candidates who will be taking the written test. Clancy & Associates
will be administering the test. The Commission decided that they will
give 75% for the written portion and 25% for the assessment portion.
Glenn Marks said that he would like to attend this test and see how it
goes and report back to the Commission.
Chief Sefcek said that the Academy has been reduced to 2 openings each
year.
Mr. Gundy mentioned that he did not feel it was necessary for the
Police Department to give a Physical Agility test. Chief Sefcek does
not recall anyone being washed out of the academy due to not passing
the physical part at the Academy.
Chief Sefcek also mentioned that 5 other local cities are talking
about when running a physical agility test to run one test for all 5
of the local cities. Chief Sefcek is to get back with the other
cities and tell them that the Commission was interested in looking
into this type of testing. For example: a candidate could be on
three different city lists but only be given a professional agility
test once. Chief Sefcek feels that if all five commissions agree, that
this may be the route the local police departments will take. Chief
Sefcek will keep the commission up dated.
Jim Hines mentioned that he did not feel that we were qualified to
give the physical agility test. Therefore, he hopes to go with St.
John & West Shore's Physical Agility Test or that we should use the
procedure that Chief Sefcek mentioned in the previous paragraph.
Jim Hines wants Tracy Ice to call St. John and West Shore and see what
the minimum amount -of candidates that could be tested for the agility
test. They said they usually test 70 candidates but then we would have
to find our own facility. We could test 20-30 candidates and then use
their facility.
