CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />CIVIL, SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES -NOVEMBER 17, 1997 <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION OF November 17, 1997 <br />WILL NOW COMMENCE.... PRESENT ARE: Chairman Cummings, Commissioner Zolar, <br />Commissioner Benjamin, Chief Viola, and Captain Whelan. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: E. Cummings motioned to approve the minutes of October 20, 1997, <br />seconded by S. Benjamin and unanimously approved. <br />M. REPORTS: <br />A) The second agility test was held on November 1, 1997: 14 candidates were scheduled to test; 1 <br />candidate did not show up; 7 candidates passed and 6 candidates failed. The results from this <br />agility test will be sent out the week of November 17, 1997. The top five names have been <br />submitted to the police department to fill the next police officer vacancy. <br />B) There will be a hearing concerning the removal of a candidate from the eligibility list for police <br />officer on December 9, 1997 at 7:00 P.M. in the mayor's conference room. E. Cummings <br />motioned to set this hearing for December 9, 1997 at 7:00 P.M., reserve a court reporter for this <br />hearing and send written notification to the candidate advising of hearing. Mr. Cummings <br />elaborated the written notice should include: the fact this is a public hearing, the police chief will <br />present evidence and the applicant may then present evidence in rebuttal. The motion was <br />seconded by S. Benjamin and unanimously approved. <br />C) The Radio Central Dispatcher's test was held on October 29, 1997: 53 application packets were <br />picked up at city hall; 34 applications were filed; 2 applications were rejected; 32 candidates were <br />scheduled to participate in the examination; 2 candidates did not show up; 29 candidates passed; <br />and 1 candidate failed. Results were sent out on November 14, 1997. <br />D) October 23, 1997 - Building Inspector tests submitted for review were returned to the testing <br />companies with a cover letter. The Building Inspector's test will be held on December 16, 1997 at <br />7:30 P.M. The time of the test has been filled in as 7:30 P.M. Ramsey & Associates will <br />administer this test. Civil Service will begin handing out applications the morning of November <br />17, 1997. <br />E) The Corrections Officer test will be held on December 2, 1997 at 7:30 P.M. 44 application <br />packets were picked up at city hall, 26 applications were filed, 1 application was rejected, and <br />25 candidates are scheduled to participate in the examination. The time was mistakenly left off of <br />the Corrections Officer application and this was not noticed until after many packets were handed <br />out. Letters have been sent out to all candidates confirming the date and time of the test. <br />F) The budget request for 1998 has been submitted to the administration. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: No items. <br />
