I. IAl 111 V CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED "TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MINUTES -MAY 18, 1998 7:00 P.M. Chairman Cummings called the meeting to order at: 7:OOP.M. ROLL CALL: THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION OF MAY 18, 1998 WILL NOW COMMENCE, PRESENT ARE: Chairman E. Cummings, Commissioner L. Zolar, Commissioner J. Thomay, and Assistant Clerk of Commissions Rote. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: E. Cummings moved to accept the minutes of April 27, 1998 as written. The motion was seconded by L. Zolar and unanimously approved. REPORTS: A) There were 29 correspondences received and sent. A complete list of the correspondences received and sent is attached to the back of the minutes. E. Cummings moved to accept the correspondences received and sent as written. unanimously approved. OLD BUSINESS: The motion was seconded by L. Zolar and NEW BUSINESS: B). Commissioners need to address Mr. Gavlak's letter dated May 11, 1998, requesting applicant Timothy Gates be allowed to take the Firefighters exam while waiting for his actual Ohio Paramedic Certification card to arrive, Mr. Gates completed the Paramedic training program at Lorain County Community College in August 1997, and completed the National Registry Examination process in December of 1997, he has received his National Registry card but has not yet received his Ohio Paramedic card that he is entitled. Mr. Cummings stated Mr. Gates submitted two letters the above mentioned and a letter that was received today from the Ohio Paramedic Board, stating Mr. Gates would be getting his Ohio Paramedic certification card within the next week. We should allow Mr. Gates to take the written test, but if he scores high enough to take the agility test then we must have a copy of his certification before he's allowed to participate in the test. The agility test is not scheduled to be given until August 15, 1998. There is no reason why we shouldn't have a copy of Mr. Gates Ohio Certification by that time. Mr. Thomay stated this is no fault of Mr. Gates, and the Civil Service hand book states he must have the certification which he does. According to the letter from the Ohio Paramedic Board. E. Cummings motioned to allow Mr. Gates to take the written entry level firefighters test, but if he can't provide a copy of his Ohio Paramedic Certification by the time the agility test is given, (IF HE QUALIFIES TO TAKE IT) then he is automatically disqualified and is not entitled to a refund. The motion was seconded by J. Thomay and unanimously approved. C). The Civil Service board will need to choose a Tester to oversee the Firefighters exam, which is scheduled for May 28, 1998 at the North Olmsted Community Cabin, at 7:30 P.M., Civil Service members will need to arrive 45 minutes prior to the start of the test. August 15, 1998 is the date that has been set for the Firefighters agility test, ( waiting for written conformation form testing company) it will be held at the North Olmsted Recreation
