CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES — NOVEMBER 20, 2000 <br />7:00 PM <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Thomay called the meeting to order at 7: l Opm. <br />PRESENT: Chairman J. Thomay, Board Members, L. Zolar and P. Farrell. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Asst. Civil Service Secretary, S. Solomon. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: The Civil Service minutes of October 16, 2000 have <br />been submitted for approval. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the October 16, 2000, Civil Service minutes as written. <br />The motion was seconded by P. Farrell and unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />1) There were 6 correspondences received and I sent. <br />Mr. Thomay reviewed each of the correspondences that were sent and received. <br />L. Zolar motioned to approve the correspondences as submitted. The motion was <br />seconded by J. Thomay and unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1) Dr. Larry Borodkin with Management Psychologists to Business & Industry will be <br />present to review what PRADCO Company does and how they can benefit the City <br />of North Olmsted. <br />At this time the clerk announced that Dr. Borodkin called the office that day and <br />cancelled his appearance at the meeting that night. <br />2) The Police and Fire Department would like to address the Commission regarding <br />possible changes in the Civil Service Handbook. <br />Captain Kevin Whelan with the Police Department was present to address the board. <br />Currently they are supplied 5 names for hiring from their eligibility lists. They hire <br />only one person, out of the five persons they are supplied. They would like to expand <br />that list to ten names. The reason being is that they are the only department that does <br />five, the remainder are doing ten names at a time. They certainly have the ability and <br />the time to do backgrounds on ten individuals as well.as polygraphs. Expanding the <br />list would extend their ability to find the best -qualified candidate. It gives thein five <br />more people to work with. On the last list they ran into some really unique <br />
