CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />"SPECIAL" CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES — MARCH 1, 2002 <br />COUNCILS CONFERENCE ROOM <br />8:30 A.M. <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Thomay called the meeting to order at 8:30 a. in. <br />PRESENT: Chairman, J. Thomay and Board member R. Giesser. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Civil Service Secretaries; D. Rote and A. Kilbane <br />ABSENT: Board member; P. Martin. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were zero (0) correspondences received and thirteen (13) correspondences sent out regarding <br />special meeting and quotes to run ads once approved.. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />1. Commissioners need to make a motion to approve CPS as the testing company for the Building <br />Inspectors examination. <br />Mr. Thomay reviewed that CPS will need to be the testing company as they are the only company <br />that administers essays. The Civil Service Handbook requires that an essay be part of the Building <br />inspectors exam. <br />J. Thomay motioned to choose CPS as the testing company. The motion was seconded by R. <br />Giesser and unanimously approved. <br />2. Commissioners need to make a motion to set the date of the Building Inspectors examination. <br />Mr. Thomay indicated that since the Building department would like to have the inspector in place <br />by May 2002. Considering the time requirements, the earliest date for the exam would be April 26, <br />2002. The clerk was able to secure Old Town Hall as the testing sight. <br />J. Thomay motioned to set the time and place of the Buildings Inspectors exam to be April 26, 2002 <br />at Old Town Hall. The motion was seconded by R. Giesser and unanimously approved. <br />3. Commissioners need to make a motion to set the passing score for the Building Inspectors <br />examination. <br />Mr. Thomay indicated that the last passing score fire the Building Inspectors test was set at 70%. <br />The Commission has set 70% as the passing grade for most of their test they have held. Mr. <br />Thomay questioned how many candidates passed the test the last time it was given. The clerk <br />indicated that all candidates passed the test. Discussion took place regarding the Civil Service <br />handbook requiring the Building Inspectors tests be graded in a specific manor. <br />J. Thomay motioned to set the passing score of the Building Inspectors test at 70%. The motion <br />was seconded by R. Giesser and unanimously approved. <br />4. Commissioners need to make a motion on accepting ads to be placed in the Plain Dealer, Chronicle, <br />and Westlife newspapers as well as the dates to place the ads. <br />
