CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />SPECIAL METING OF THE CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION <br />MINUTES — JUNE 6, 2003 <br />COUNCIL'S CAUCUS ROOM <br />8:30 A.M. <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Chairman Thomay called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. <br />PRESENT: Chairman J. Thomay and Board member R. Lesser <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley, Safety Director R. Jesse, Fire Chief T. <br />Klecan and Civil Service Secretary D. Rote. <br />ABSENT: Board member P. Martin <br />Chairman Thomay asked the clerk to address why Mrs. Martin was not present. The clerk indicated <br />that she received written notice from Mrs. Martin resigning her position on the board due to her <br />busy traveling schedule. <br />II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes dated May 19, 2003 is submitted for approval. <br />There was discussion as to whether or not minutes could be approved at special meetings. It was <br />decided that if the commission received the minutes they could be approved. The Chairman voiced <br />that there was a clerical error regarding the use of the word (addition) and (edition) which should be <br />corrected. The correct use would be edition. The clerk was asked to clarify the motion regarding <br />the wording for dropping the suggested study book. The clerk indicated that in the body of the <br />discussion the book was referred to as the book that was not available. However, the motion was to <br />remove a specific book. <br />J. Thomay motioned to approve the Civil Service minutes dated May 19, 2003 as corrected. R. <br />Giesser seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />III. REPORTS: <br />There were (8) pieces of correspondence received pertaining to the issue and (10) pieces of <br />correspondence sent pertaining to the issue. <br />Both board members acknowledged they reviewed all the correspondences sent and received. <br />Chairman Thomay motioned to approve the correspondences as received. R. Giesser seconded <br />the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />To review and to ratify the publication of notice for the Asst. Fire Chief examination (address the <br />issue of a study book that was chosen but was not available, as well as a clerical error made <br />regarding which book was not available and removed from the published notification). <br />Mrs. Giesser indicated that before the board address the issue she would like to go into an <br />executive session to discuss the issue with the commission's legal council. Assistant Law Director <br />O'Malley felt that it would be appropriate to go into executive session with the commission. <br />
