CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED <br />"TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!" <br />CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING <br />MARCH 1, 2004 <br />MINUTES <br />I. ROLL CALL: <br />Acting Chairwoman Giesser called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br />PRESENT: Acting Chairwoman R. Giesser and board member M. Ubaldi. <br />ALSO PRESENT: Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley, Civil Service Secretary D. Rote, and <br />visitor William Hohmann. <br />H. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES: <br />The Civil Service minutes of January 21, 2004 are submitted for approval. <br />R. Giesser motion to approve the Civil Service minutes of January 21, 2004 as written. M. <br />Ubaldi seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />1111. CORRESPONDENCE: <br />There were 5 items of correspondence received and 0 piece of correspondence sent out. <br />Discussion regarding the Civil Service association took place. Commissioners felt that at least <br />one member should join the Northeast Ohio Civil Service association. <br />R. Giesser motion to have board member M. Ubaldi join the Civil Service association to <br />represent North Olmsted. M. Ubaldi seconded the motion, which was unanimously <br />approved. <br />Ms. Giesser reviewed the Safety Directors memo requesting an entry-level fire fighters exam be <br />started and suggesting that they are looking into provisional hiring. The secretary briefly <br />updated the commissioners as to the status of their 2004 budget request, which is before Council <br />for final approval. Currently Council has requested that Civil Service testing and Civil Service <br />others fund totals be researched before giving their approval. Mr. O'Malley advised the <br />commissioners that they should avoid budgetary considerations and focus on their role of <br />providing the tests. They can start the process of getting quotes and researching what is <br />available. The secretary was directed to contact Mr. Ehasz at the Cuyahoga Community college <br />to find out what would be required from the commission to start their program. The commission <br />reviewed that they need to incorporate wording in their handbook to participate in the program <br />so the law department was asked to research State and local Laws to help amend their rules. <br />The secretary was asked to pull all the minutes and documentation from when the commissions <br />meetings with the college so all the members could be familiar with the program. <br />IV. OLD BUSINESS: <br />Ms. Giesser advised that the commission would address appointing officers. <br />M. Ubaldi motion to appoint R. Giesser as Civil Service Chairwoman. The motion was <br />seconded by R. Giesser and unanimously approved. <br />R. Giesser motion to appoint M. Ubaldi as vice Civil Service Chairman. M. Ubaldi <br />seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. <br />
