CITY OF NORTH OLMSTED
CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING
MAYOR'S CONFERENCE ROOM
NOVEMBER 29, 2004
MINUTES
I. ROLL CALL:
Chairwoman Giesser called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
Present: Chairwoman R. Giesser and Board Members; M Ubaldi and W. Hohmann
Also Present: Assistant Law Director B. O'Malley and Civil Service Secretary D. Rote
II. DISPOSITION OF MINUTES:
The Civil Service minutes dated November 8, 2004 have been submitted for approval.
R. Giesser moved to approve the November 8, 2004 Civil Service minutes as corrected. M.
Ubaldi seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved.
III. CORRESPONDENCE:
There were (7) pieces of correspondence received and (29) pieces of correspondence sent out by Civil
Service.
IV. OLD BUSINESS:
A: Review test results for Entry -Level Police examination and motion on extra credit.
The clerk reviewed that out of the 81 applicants seeking extra credit for military or education points
there are 9 submittals which need to be reviewed by the commission. The commissioners spent an
hour or more going through those applications requesting military credit which were not clear to the
clerk. The following are motions made on applications requesting military credit:
R. Giesser moved to deny Daniel Bullitt all military credit for the reason that the
documentation submitted does not indicate whether or not his discharge was honorable or not.
M. Ubaldi seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. Denied Military Credit.
M. Ubaldi moved to deny Bryan Carney all credit for active military credit for the reason that
the documentation submitted DD 2-14 and letter from Marine Captain does not provide the
commission with sufficient means to discern active service time beyond the time frame shown
on the DD 2-14 which does not qualify the applicant to extra credit. W. Hohmann seconded
the motion which was unanimously approved. Denied Military Credit.
M. Ubaldi moved to deny Jared Prill additional credit for active military service on the
.grounds that the applicant's DD 2-14 indicated a total active service below the minimum
requirement for extra credit. W. Hohmann seconded the motion, which was unanimously
approved. Denied Military Credit.
R. Giesser moved to deny Lisette Gonzalez any military credit on the grounds that there is
nothing to substantiate her claim for military credit. M. Ubaldi seconded the motion, which
was unanimously approved. Denied Military Credit.
R. Giesser moved to deny military credit to Paul Lough on the grounds that there is no DD 2-
14 or equivalent documentation nor any evidence of an honorable discharge. M. Ubaldi
seconded the motion which was unanimously approved. Denied Military Credit.
